BUSH'S ONLY REAL VICTORY
George Orwell warned us, but what American would have expected that in the opening years of the 21st century the United States would become a country in which lies and deception by the president and vice president were the basis for a foreign policy of war and aggression, and in which indefinite detention without charges, torture, and spying on citizens without warrants have displaced the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution?
You were warned in the book 1984. The article is from antiwar.com, howev er it seems to be critizing everyone!
Bush's Only Real Victory - by Paul Craig Roberts
\The reading is interesting, but who believes it?

If anybody knows conservatives it's Paul Craig Roberts. He doesn't sound happy about the way they turned out either.
He served under Reagan who started the concept of putting more conservative judges on the bench.

He might very well be a snooze but the true conservatives are in an uproar. Conservatism went out the window under Bush.

That is true, but conservatism is like liberalism, both are abandoned with the election. Words are there, actions are not............middle of road becomes the norm.

So is this guy saying that he thinks that all of the detention camps, red and blue lists, black helicopters, and rounding up of citizens as enemy combatants is going to happen?
I mean, I'm in agreement with limiting the power of government, but if this guy is wanting to throw all of the blame on the Bush Administration he's a little out of the loop.
I'm still kind of undecided on the whole wiretapping thing. I mean, why would the Bush Admin. want to listen to me talk about a girl I met at a bar or something? I would like to think that we as citizens would only let it get so far before we did something drastic, but then again most people are too preoccupied with their iPods and hula hoops. Maybe it will get out of hand before a majority of people wise up.

The thing that worries me most is Bush making up his own laws. I'm all for presidential powers but if he is able to operate outside the guidelines of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights without oversight I think it sets a dangerous precedent.

But bear in mind Bush, or any other president can't do a hell of a lot unless Congress LETS him. If the Republican majority decided to put the brakes on Bush I'm sure they could. You know the Democrats would join in to oppose the prez should he decide to whip out the veto pen.
I was never fond of a president accepting ALL the blame for a certain condition.

Along those lines, you should not be happy with a prez that takes all the credit, say for the economy. Right?

This is nothing new. A sitting president will take credit for ANYTHING and blame all the bad on the other party. The Republicans always tout "the Bush tax cuts" but they would be more accurate if they said "the Bush tax SUGGESTIONS" because the House handles all the money matters. If they said no he would be finished.
But the president does indeed take credit for a good economy (and ONLY a good one) and no, I never liked it.
