Clinton the frontrunner? Not anymore

Political Tracking Poll: Clinton vs. Obama

Edwards was already leading Clinton in two out of the first three primaries.

But now we have a generic nationwide poll that shows Clinton down to 22% of the vote. Obama has 21% and Edwards 15%.

The race is wide open in both parties, with no clear frontrunner.

Reports on polls is just lazy reporting. It's the journalistic equivalent of busy work.

I agree with superbug, it's a bit early to put much stock in early polls. We don't even have any official statements on where the canidates stand yet. This sounds like a name recognition poll to me.

I'd say that neither one is electable, so the Dems are fucked either way. But I suppose it also depends on if the GOP runs McCain or someone else. I am starting to look at this race as the Republicans race to lose, only if they want to.

It seems to be just another way to help the people decide who is the leader, it is easier than checking out positions and record.

Thanks for that, but I have to point out that it is a little unfair.

Mitt Romney is probably the most outspoken candidate mentioned there, but Mitt Romney and Barrack Obama are the only two that aren't already well known. John McCain has been well known for a long time, and generally speaking has received good press from both sides. Rudy Giuliani had a little bit of recognition, but 9/11 made his name pretty well known. John Edwards had run for Vice President before, and so is very well known, even if few people know his policies (i.e., I'm not all too familiar). Hillary Clinton... Everyone is familiar with Hillary, so before she speaks she'll have staunch supporters and staunch opponents.

The only two who aren't very well known are Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Barack Obama has been getting alot of recognition lately, and if the trend continues then he does hold a good chance. Mitt Romney's name is less well known, but those who know it know what he stands for more than they would Obama. Mitt Romney is the least well known among these, but when his name has come up in the past it has come up in polarizing issues, namely gay marriage.

So give Mitt Romney and Barack Obama a little bit more chance, although I think that we'll see Giuliani take it. McCain is too liberal to take the Republican ticket, Giuliani is fairly conservative and very electable.

I would be a little bit surprised to see it, but I don't see a Romney-Clinton battle out of the picture, or something like that.
