I maybe a bit old fashioned but I make it a habit to keep my word, which is why I do not give it often.
The old saying "my word is my bond" is something that really resonates with me. In a world full of empty material possessions its something that has real value for me. Unfortunately peoples "word" is more of an empty promise than anything else. It seems as though things like honor, trust and responsibility haver been replaced with THINGS, THINGS, THINGS! People are constantly disappointing me with their "word". Its funny I'm always surprised when someone breaks their word. You would think I would be used to it by now. I suppose its my constant resolve in the goodness of man that sets me up for disappointment. I think this life is slowly making me bitter.

Hey! Wheres my gun and bible. I got some clutchin' to do!

In my opinion, all to often a person's word is taken for granted
Not too many people say "you have my word on that" nowadays.
As for the things things things stuff.
T bar in todays soceity is be this way, be that way which takes individuality out of the picture.
This is espcially difficult for young people and teenagers.
I guess that's why I was a hippie they didn't care what you looked like or how fancy your clothes were.
