Positive Aspects of Bush's Presidency

OK, now i know many of you probably dislike good'ol Georgie but i wonder, rather then point out the inefficiencies and ineptitude of the Bush presidency, can anyone point out a something that they did or do like about his presidency?

I can name two aspects of Bush's presidency that i do like:

1) is his aid to developing and established democracies in it's Africa program

Africa Policy

2) is his sense of humor. Now, i'm not commenting on the stupid things that he says but more the funny comments that he does make, such as those at the White House Correspondents' Association annual dinner.

Quote:
"Senator McCain's not here," Bush said of GOP nominee-in-waiting John McCain. "He probably wanted to distance himself from me a little bit. You know, he's not alone. Jenna's moving out too."

Bush then referred to scandals that have dogged the campaigns of the two remaining Democratic candidates, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, in explaining their absence: "Hillary Clinton couldn't get in because of sniper fire and Senator Obama's at church."

So, what about you, is there any aspect of Bush's presidency that you do happen to like?

I figure this is going to be one of shortest threads ever.

(By the way, do you think Bush's remarks at the Correspondent's dinner are pre-scripted? Or do you think he's up there ad-libbing, relying on his natural sense of humor?)

Really, you couldn't find one thing you like about his presidency?

I like that he only has 8 more months left in the the most disasterous presidency of my lifetime.

I doubt he improvised it on the spot. He probably spent the two night previous thinking it up, and then just memorized it for that night.

As for his presidency, I have to agree, he has done a good job helping Africa. I also think that he handled the initial response to 9/11 very well. I think Iraq was a mistake, but I do agree with going into Afghanistan.

There have been a few positives:

1. He has convictions. While many of us may disagree with him on several issues, he does what he thinks is the right thing to do.

2. The 6 months following 9/11 were handled very well. He helped bring everyone together and led the charge for revenge. This was ended by the his advisers pushing him towards war with Iraq.

3. 2007 was a big success for Bush. He has shown strength of Character, and was able to single handedly keep the Democrats at bay. Skillful use of the veto, and threatening, he was able to exhibit strong leadership. Too bad he was not able to do this when his own party was in control.

4. The 2003 tax cuts were an excellent idea. They were probably a strong force in helping bring us out of the recession that he had inherited upon taking office. Downsides being Congress did not reel in its spending to adjust for the tax cuts, leading us into huge debt, and the Federal Reserve drove us to another recession with too loose credit policies.

5. He is a deceptively good public speaker. While people may think that he sounds foolish, his style has allowed him to rise to the Presidency, and garner the votes of millions who identify with him. Because he does not speak like a classical orator, he is consistently "misunderestimated". Underestimating Bush is done at ones own peril, as he is quite shrewd. Because of this, he can do things that could not be done if his enemies thought highly of him.

Although I respect politicking, and the power of rhetoric. Perhaps the average person would not look so kindly on the skills of manipulation as I do.

You know, i watched this documentary on Tony Blair (whose a Neo-Liberal). Now, these two guys ideologically shouldn't work well together. Now, when the pair first met, a reporter asked Bush something about the relationship, to which Bush replied 'Me and Tony, we have a lot in common... we both use the same toothpaste'. Now, tell me, was that scripted or just a part of Bush's humor? Whilst i think it probably the night was scripted, it is undoubtedly Bush's own sense of humor, not someone else's.

According to nearly all first hand accounts he is a rather funny guy, and fun to joke around with. He probably was improvising at that dinner with a set of things to talk about he had come up with before hand.

The classical accusation that Bush is stupid, while at the same time charging him with diabolical scheming. He's more intelligent than you think.

I'd call this more of a minus for the fools who voted for him rather than a plus for him. To me his phonyness stands out like a turd in a punch bowl.
