Although I too disagree with that post.
I was drafted and served my country and have often defended it in a debate.
I am always left with one question, if we are a country that stands for the benifit of the world,if we are constantly helping other countries with foreign aid and other situations like natural disasters and free trade.
If in fact we are for "human rights" global wide.
Why are we not respected more, and why are our judgements being questioned?
I may disagree with people on subjects but to question their intellect,to question their intergrity to have no respect for a person that is not the way I do things..
If globalization comes and I think it will America and it's people must gaiin the respect of nations, not just militarily but through diplomicy and other actions.
And for the record I love my country America for the good times and the bad.

I'm sorry if this offended you but please, try and read it again...

AMERICAN 'CIVILIANS' BELIEVE THAT THE ARMY IS INCINSIBLE. NOT THE SOLDIERS.

I have the deepest respect of people that die for their country. Even if it is some half-assed one as Iraq. Soldiers are brave and good men that go and KILL for a just cause. They're the best people around. And people that reafuse to have anything to do with killing to defend their own country seems to me like lesser persons.

RESPECT TO THE SOLDIERS OF THE WEST ; which by the way includes most of my family, so don't come talking to me about death

And there are also those who believe if Diplomacy doesn't work, then just give into their demands.

The US has always tried diplomacy first. War is a last resort. I think you swerved into agreeing with me

I did not take the time to read all ten pages of this thread, so if what I am about to say has come up in the past then I apologize.

As I said before, I served the US in the military, and continue to serve on the GS side of the Government.

While I know there are other nation's armed forces in the world that are just as good, if not better than us in some areas, we seem to dominate as a whole. The thing that sets us apart from most of them is our ability to coordinate between the services, and to use them all in a combined arms means. I am not just taking shock and awe, I am talking maneuver combined arms warfare at its greatest. Other nations do this exceptionally well, but I do not believe (from working with a number of them in the past) that they have been able to train to the same level as us. All that while maintaining the ability to operate independently of the other services or even higher headquarters kind of sets us apart.

This is like the 9mm vs .45 ACP debate. It can never truly be won by either side.

i doubt the question of iraq was ever meant to have a diplomatic resolution.
