Biden Begins His Push
Senate Democrat with eye on White House vows to fight troop surge in Iraq
WASHINGTON -- Incoming Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Joseph Biden, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, said Tuesday he would oppose any effort by President Bush to increase U.S troops in Iraq as part of a new war strategy.
Biden also announced he has summoned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to testify before his committee next month to discuss the administration's new plan for Iraq as soon as it is made public

His chances? Poor.
As to the merits of his policy stance here, does he support withdrawal? Because if he doesn't support a troop surge and he doesn't support withdrawal, he supports "stay the course". Or nothing in particular.

Biden also says, "Republicans, this is your war."
Well, since Democrats are at the forefront of withdrawal, it will be THEIR withdrawal, with all the consequences that flow from that. It was so after Vietnam, it will be so after Iraq.

I never paid much attention to Biden in the past so I had to look him up.
He has a good track record but Clinton and Obama are sucking the air out of the room right now.
Given the other two mentioned, Biden is the best pick on paper but the fundraising might be a hurdle.

Biden is a moderate. He has been pretty consistent with his pragmatic view and analysis of things, particularly the Iraq war. He's a smart guy and has a pretty clear viewpoint, which I generally agree with. That's why we have been putting him back in the Senate for well over 20 years.
I say don't dismiss him until you pay attention to what he has said over the years. He might be destined for also-ran status but when you look at who we have NOW and then Barack (who?) Obama and Hillary (weathervane) Clinton you could do a LOT worse than Biden.
Although I despise Democrats in general I would vote Biden in a New York minute. Unfortunately, as I'm registered Libertarian I can't vote for him in the primary.

Biden likes to see his name in print. Who's in? Alfred E. Newman would be a better choice.

Alfred E. is the mascot of a satirical magazine which is MUCH more intelligent than the people and things it lampoons. In that case you are putting old Joe in pretty good company, I would say.
