You might no smarts, they are the hit for every American visiting Europe. Hardly one misses to take pictures of them. Often marked with comments like "what the fuck is that?" or "car??"

And thats why:

Austrian police smart

Ok, now you know what I am speaking about, its perhaps interesting to know that in European citizens these cars are a common see. Not that streets are full of them, but you don't have to search too long for them either. 750.000 of them have been sold since its introduction, no extreme success, but they survived and created a whole market segment on its own: the ultra compact car, the smart segment.

Now smart comes to the US, it will be just sold in larger cities, preferably east coast or so at first. What do you think about it?

Some data:
max speed: 145 km/h
power: up to 70 PS or so
fuel efficiency: 60 mpg
two seats and a package space comparable to sport cars.

I'll tell you. That if I was a cop I would not want one of those. I don't think that is a safe car to be chasing speeders in.

That car is not used for chasing speeders anyway. Its a city patrol vehicle. And inside of cities you have a clear advantage withs such a car.

Regarding safety. Its as safe as any other averge save and average sized car. The new version coming now on the market will be even safer and is expected to reach a rating of 4 out of 5 at the European crash test.

I like them! But they probably will not do so well in a country addicted to large SUV and gasoline.
