How Long does it take?
It will probably take many weeks. Once we have 7 people lined up, I'll unveil my system for assigning countries. We'll take a vote on how often we want to have turns. Then the game will begin. We'll probably have a turn either once a day or 3 times a week. After everyone submits their turns each time, I'll post a map showing everyone's move and another map showing how that turn was resolved. It's all calculated with a program I have, which poops out cute little maps with the armies and everything.

There's a bunch of paraphernalia that I recommend. I played this game in college and I made my own map. However, 10 years later ( ) you can use computer programs to position your units and simulate future scenarios. Planning future scenarios is very important. The rules also need to be explained to noobs (who will probably constitute 6 of 7 of the people playing).

Let me give England some good advice right now. Don't just build navies. I made that mistake. It helps in the beginning, but it will fuck you later.

All moves will be submitted to the Game Master (GM) who is Drake in this case. You can use the PM system on this forum, however I would say that one really must be careful not to accidentally send the wrong PM to the wrong country.

The GM has to be pretty damn trustworthy, and if Drake is playing, I might even need to act as GM. The GM has to be trusted to make his move before looking at the moves he receives. Y'all better let me be GM, because I won't be playing and thus have no conflict of interest (no offense, Drake ).

Countries should be chose by lottery, shouldn't they? The most experienced player may want to take the worst position.....That would either be Austria, Italy or Germany, I believe. The strongest position is the UK, as well as Turkey.

You will be communicating, forging deals and lying to each other either through PM or e-mails.

Just FYI I will be gone for most of the day tomorrow (Wednesday) so I won't post on this thread until then.

Haven't played before, but I've been interested in playing this for a long time. I guess that I'll have to download the computer version to get a good handle on it.

The game is actually extremely simple in principle. The nation that gets control of 24 supply centers wins. Typically it is 18 but we'll be playing to 24.

Everyone turns in their moves and everyone’s decisions are put into play simultaneously. Each turn is either the spring or the fall of the given year. You can take control of a supply center by having an army or fleet in a space that has a supply center after the fall turn. In the spring turn you cannot gain or lose any supply centers. The game starts in the spring of 1901, the second turn is in the fall of 1901, etc.

Each turn, you have to give instructions to each of your military units (you start with 3). You only have as many military units as you have supply centers. When you gain new supply centers you get to build new units in your home spaces. When you lose a supply center your military unit farthest away from your capital is eliminated.

There are only four moves you can give. There is no “attack” only move, hold, support, and convoy. The instructions on how these four orders work and examples are on the instruction sheet attached to the opening post. You cannot have more than one military unit in a space at a time. So learning how to use the “support” command is very important. Different countries can also provide support or convoy orders for each other. The thing to remember with supporting is that both the moving unit and the supporting unit have to be capable of moving into the territory in question.

Let me know if you have questions about anything specific.

By the way, I will NOT be playing!

------------

ONLY TWO SPACES LEFT!

Players so far:
1. USViking
2. Caltex
3. Slartibartfas (tentatively)
4. Billybones468
5. Troianii
6.
7.
