Hannspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu was crowned World Supersport champion at Brands Hatch this afternoon after securing second place in the race.

The Turkish rider is 80 points ahead of his nearest rival in the championship and can not be caught.

Broc Parkes took the victory, his first of the season, at the Kent circuit for Yamaha after benefiting from a crash by Britain’s Craig Jones.

Kenan Sofuoglu lead from the start of the race in front of Craig Jones and Britain’s Yamaha rider Tommy Hill.

And a determined Craig Jones, in front of his home crowd, tore past Kenan Sofuoglu on lap two and the British rider was soon in control.

Craig Jones recorded the first of the fastest laps on lap two with a 1:29.563 and soon gained a second lead over second placed Broc Parkes.

It looked as if all Craig Jones had to do was stay focussed and on the bike for the win, but it was not to be as he slid off at Clearways on lap four to hand the lead to Broc Parkes.

From here Parkes gained the advantage of a clear track in front of him and had built a three second lead by the time he passed the chequered flag.

Tommy Hill will consider his first outing in World Supersport as mission accomplished after finishing fifth. Yesterday he said a top six finish was his aim.
