Penn State will not disclose the salaries of its administrators and employees, and has tried to block an attempt by a reporter for the Patriot-News of Harrisburg to find out the salary of Paterno and three top administrators.
Penn State gets about 10 percent of its more than $3 billion budget from the state but is a separate entity. The reporter, Jan Murphy, sought the salary information from the State Employees Retirement System, to which Paterno and the executives belong.
