Well there are only 3 countries in Europe paying more for petrol then the UK, and Denmark is one of them, now considering we all paying the same price for the barrel you can assume the rest is tax.

We also have a base 30 rate for Corporate tax (on a list I checked, though now i think it is something like 18) which was far higher then most of Europe. Though we had 2 different rates, we had 10 and 40 depending on the type of money made. Complicated system.

See thats where the problems come when you start to talk about how taxed you are. Obvious ones like Petrol can be compared, income tax becomes more complex as different countries have different levels of taxation for different levels of earnings. Then you have VAT that is different nation from nation and exemptions exist for different items. Then we have taxation at local level, Council Taxes in the UK. Then we have Road Tax in the UK for a Car, then we have TV tax if you own a TV. Our VAT also applies to our household fuel, which it didn't use to.

I honestly don't know if we are more heavily taxed then Denmark or what the house prices are like in comparison to your earnings. A quick look on the internet didn't provide any answers, so any links you could have that uncomplicate this matter to the point where we can make meaningful comparison please post them up.
