Women and Politics
Why does it seem that men are far more interested and involved with politics than women? Is it because we we're still fighting for equal rights are respect? Or do most just not give a damn?...
I really want to know what you think...

I can't really comment on the rates of men vs. women in politics, but I think a better question would ask why so few people are interested in politics overall. The political intelligence and knowledge of your average adult is absolutely abysmal.

Are women really not interesting in politics? Looking at this site you might think so, where the overwhelming amount of posters are male.
However, looking at the Hillary campaign you might think that women do participate in politics heavily. I believe that women outnumber men as the base of the Democratic Party and the base of Clinton's candidacy.
By the way, welcome to the forum, Miss.

I've found as a member of a political party, that it's about half and half, but more men go for leadership positions.

I have found women are interested in local politics more than national or global.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. They are also more interested in the politics of helping other people. When I was in school getting my BA in poli sci the department was split as far as gender, but while most guys were talking about being Senators or lawyers, many of the women were more interested in non-profits and social services.

The political party you are/were a member of had quotas to supposedly push women to the top was this because they were being treated unfairly or did the poor dears need a helping hand !

It did, and I oppose that system, because it's discriminatory. It was well intentioned though. The party leadership thought that the local parties were discriminatory in choosing their candidates for MP, and had to be pushed to choose a woman. I think that's wrong. When we were recently choosing who should be our next MP candidate for the place I live, there were only 5 female applicants, and about 30-40 male applicants. Women just don't put themselves forward for the positions.
Also, though this is hard to measure, I don't think the female Labour MPs are generally as good as the males, because most of them got in due only to that quota system, not by merit. The questions they ask in PMQs aren't as good, and there are normally far more men than women in the important ministerial positions.

I would agree with you the quota system has not been a success and the quality of female MP`s seems to be some what light weight ...was Harriet Harman a product of this system if she was it would explain a lot lol
