Would you say that our society has more politicaly charged art and music created by liberals or conservatives?

What kind and how much of an influence does it leave on one side or the other?

What is your favorite politically charged work of art or music?
I believe that history has shown that artwork tends to be liberal leaning for the most part, which is why in repressive regimes, artists are among the first to be censored or persecuted.
It wasn't always that way, in fact the renaissance period in Europe had artists especially commissioned by the church but the creative vibe demands free thinking so over time, things have shifted.
It is also interesting to note that artwork that depicts biblical scenes/personas or represent a value system that the US is built on, for example Lady Justice, and could hardly be labeled as blasphemous or insulting are routinely censored by conservative groups or individuals for nudity.
(I guess what comes to mind is John Ashcroft's phobia which led him to cover up a statue which has been an iconic symbol of our system since 1933)

Art is always influencial because it taps directly into people's emotions, sometimes not voluntarily.

Gauguin created an uproar when he painted Yellow Christ, for example.
But his primary goal had been to show a desire for a return to simpler ideals.

Other artists mean to rattle people and make them think.
Serge Gainsbourg infuriated many French when he recorded a tweaked, reggae version of La Marseillaise.
Eminem gave us Mosh.

Just so everyone knows what your talking about:

Quote:
Modelled on a wooden crucifix Gauguin saw during his stay in Brittany, this painting depicts a group of Breton peasant women mourning a yellowish Christ crucified in a landscape populated by flat orange trees and ribbonlike streams. The conscious breaking of representational and historical conventions was part of Gauguin's attempt to return to a simpler, more primitive world of visual expression and meaning.

Yes it’s a great example of a good political song. That’s why I posted it at the beginning of this thread too.

Yes, indeed.

I love this song! “Coca-Cola... sometimes war”
I think its a very good song in fact, with a more sublime style than most Rammstein songs. But as little as its a love song, its an anti American tirade as is sometimes claimed. It is a justified and good approach in my eyes, because if you look at it, it does not claim that the US is imperialist, it shows how in fact, how people all over the world "are America" voluntarily, and the US is just taking this chance as much as it can.

Wow… I’ve never seen that before… It's got a good beat. and no I’ve never heard of ‘Laibach’.
Its a weird band probably, as its not a real band but just a part of a "collective" that names itself "Neue Slowenische Kunst". Laibach is just its musical facade of that arts collective that does also other stuff. It has been founded when Slovenia was still part of Yugoslavia under communist rule, but already back then provoked quite much. I mean those names above like Laibach and Neue Slowenische Kunst are German, and I did not translate them, they are also used by them like this. Moreover "Laibach" is the old Austrian name for what is now the capital of Slovenia and in its own language called Ljubljana. The old Austrian name was a taboo under communist rule.

They also have a song called Slovania. I am not sure what the message should be there, but you never can be with this band. But its definitely political as well.

I think it suggests some form of Panslavism... but if its a true Laibach song it means everything and nothing at the same time

That is the most pleasant industrial sounding song I’ve ever heard. Who do you think is "the nameless one" in this song?

I have not the slightest idea. But a very good question.

The only thing I know is that the song is somehow based on the Polish hymn.

I don't think anyone has posted any hip-hop yet. Here are a few:

Talib Kweli - Hostile Gospel

Blue Scholars - Back Home

Pharoahe Monch - Gun Draws

Jedi Mind Tricks - Philosophy Of Horror
