There's a difference between my personal view and my own experience and observations.

It may not "ruin" a persons life like say, cancer can. But it definitely changes attitude, perceptions and motivations. Not in a positive direction either.

That's not to say that ETOH doesn't do nearly the same thing, just in different ways due it's different effects and metabolism. Now back to MY argument that we should make it all legal or make it all ILLEGAL. We can't have it both ways and expect our citizens to respect a half baked law like we have today. I'd be perfectly happy either way.

Yes, booze can and will screw up a persons life MUCH faster. Weed can TOO if someone allows it too. Under it's frequent consistent USE that likelyhood DOES increase.

They ARE different drugs. However they can BOTH give very negative results.

This may seem strange of ME to say, but I do beleive ETOH (alcohol) is more dangerous :-)

Gad, thanks for your support here :-) I've observed it in a few people that I've worked with. They weren't bad people or anything but my God, they were in a very limited "universe" much of the time.

Well, you and I both know THAT'S never gonna happen. The stinkin' Govt. makes too much $$ keeping most of it illegal.

It's a racket. As is the legal, govt. controlled alcohol racket.

MY idea would be to have say, drug reservations where people could go and stay and get and use anything they wanted as long as they left clean.

Or some kind of "zone" where it was all legal.

I don't know. Maybe not a good idea.

The legalization of many of the "dangerous" drugs, would do several things

1) put more money into the govt coffers

2) would eliminate some of the lethal crime, at all, before you attack

3)stop the obscene money made by drug dealers

4) would help third world farmers make a descent living without violating some law or such

5) help decrease of money being spent on one unwinable, at least.

Just a thought?

umm...Drugs are baad mmm'kay

Just not as bad as the drug war. Nicotine is more addictive than most illegal drugs but cigarette companies aren't shooting it out on the streets and smokers aren't knocking over 7-11's to get their fix.

Drugs aren't the cause of violent crime. The War on Drugs is. It's also a total failure. If the increase of violent crime were likened to an unpleasent side-effect of a medical treatment than you'd want to know if the treatment was working. It's not. This isn't just a case of the cure being worse than the disease. It's a case of the treatment being worse than the disease and entirely ineffective to boot.

Thane there are advantages to Pot. Like helping sick people. People with arthritis. And other stuff. In the medical field.

Should really see Penn & Tellers point of view on this subject.
