The article starts off with Jim Jones...
Correspondent Beverly Darling.
Twenty-seven years ago on November 17-19? Jim Jones, the founder of the Peoples Temple Church, looked out over his flock in the jungles of Guyana, South America and uttered these final words, ‘If we can’t live in peace then lets die in peace. We are committing suicide-it’s a revolutionary act.’ By now, through the abuse of authoritarianism, suggestibility, paranoia, and the warnings of an approaching Armageddon, the Peoples Temple had developed into a sect with destructive cult-like beliefs. A drink laced with cyanide poisoning had been prepared for the ‘true believers.’ Many willingly drank the poison and laid down beside each other to die. Those who refused the toxic drink were either injected with it or shot. Over 900 people died that day, including 200 children. Jim Jones was also among the dead.
And then moves on to the whole phenomenoa.
