Petitioning to have Imus fired
Imus recently called several female black basketball players some "nappy-headed ho's." He called them this for no reason other than that they are black. Imus has also made racist statements against Palestinians as well. I will be writing to MSNBC to ask that Imus be fired.
Feel free to join in.

Imus was speaking with producer Bernard McGurk when the NCAA title game between Rutgers and Tennessee came up.
"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos ..."
"Some hardcore hos," said McGurk.
"That's some nappy headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.

Gonna send this out either today or tomorrow:
Quote:
Dear MSNBCTV,
Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my letter. This letter is in response to Don Imus’ recent comments, calling the young ladies in Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy headed hos."
First let me say, that I enjoy the commentary of both the left and the right on MSNBC. You have many quality and entertaining news programs and political opinions shows, including Hardball, Meet the Press, and Scarborough Country. I enjoy watching these shows and I turn to MSNBC first to get all my news and political coverage.
This is not the first time Don Imus has made racist remarks. He also hosted a conversation where one of his guests remarked about Palestinians: “"Stinking animals. They ought to drop the bomb right there, kill 'em all right now." Imus laughed and did not appear to disagree. He also went on to play some rendition of a Patton speech, referring to Arabs as “ragheads.” This is something that Don Imus endorses.
I am highly offended by the growing number of racist remarks coming from Don Imus that he broadcasts over the country, via your television network. If Mr. Imus wants to be a racist on his own dime, so be it, but I think it is far beneath the high-quality standards of MSNBCTV to include this bigot in its all-star line up. It really does a disservice to your quality programs, which I have already mentioned. Personally, I will choose to stop watching MSNBCTV and to watch CNN and FOX instead, so long as Don Imus remains on your network.
It is just not acceptable for this man to spew his hate against good and innocent Americans just to suit his bigotry and/or sick sense of humor. I hope that you will do your talented staff and your audience a favor by removing this intolerant and spiteful person from your station.
Thank you and have a good day.

I think Imus is a Mummy. You may have no effect. Though... good luck.

Yeah, but derogatory doesn't mean that it is racist. I mean, I can see how sand n-word would be racist, but I don't think that rag head or camel fucker are racist.

It's a tempest in a teapot, and the "if it bleeds it leads" media is fanning the flames, along with race baiters like Sharpton. It was a very racists remark and an insult to the girls on the Rutgers team and he HAS apologized for it. Can I assume you think an apology for an intemperate remark is no good any more?
People have got to realize two things. One, this is his act, and has been for some 30 years. As an entertainer it is just plain disingenuous to start assuming you know this guy, or anybody else in show business, personally and know if he is really racist or not.
And two, if you don't like it, you don't have to listen to him. And it's not even completely a freedom of speech issue. It's an ACT and he messed up on a sensitive subject. It's the same thing with Rush Limbaugh. Did anyone make a big stink about his HALFrican American remark regarding Obama?
My feeling is Imus isn't anywhere near the cranky bastard he plays on the air and his apology to Sharpton seemed quite sincere. And in all the 30 years I have been listening to this guy I don't recall any blatant racism on his part, aside from what is obviously his deliberate "shock jock" persona.
It's a non-issue.

But he never said the N word.
I've been listening to this guy for a long time, and I believe he has "brutally" attacked just about every single group on the planet. It's his "schtick" and it is what made him hugely successful over the years.
The funny thing is, nobody has made such a huge stink over any other group Imus has trashed. Maybe THEY know it was a joke and this was one of those situations where he inadvertently gone over the top. Also, he never seems to have any problem with the same people he insults appearing on his show and them all having a load of laughs, often at the expense of the host.
Which reminds me, NOBODY on that show gets trashed and insulted more than Imus HIMSELF. Anyone who has listened to the show for more than a few weeks would have realized that immediately. "Wrinkled up, senile, turkey-necked old bastard who ought to die" would be one of the kinder things his own crew says about him.
