The ART thread

Hey guys, I can't believe that I didn't think of this before, but I've decided to start an art thread for those of us who like art. I'll start it off by mentioning a few of my favorite styles and pieces.

This is Bernini's (Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini) statue of David. This is my favorite of the David statues, you are probably familiar with Michealangelo's David. I just prefer this one. If I Could find some close ups of the piece you would see why.
This falls under the catagory of Baroque art.

Here is another one of his pieces. This one is pretty controversial, but regardless of what you might think it means, you got to hand it to the guy. He knew how to sculpt.

The Ecstacy of ST. Theresa

If you like more "primitive" stuff you can post and talk about it too. Here is some cool stuff from South America.

These are calle the Nazca Lines. They can only be seen from really high up. These photos were taken from an airplane.

Any ways, I was trying to talk to a buddy of mine about art, and he has studied more music classes, so neither one of us knew what the other was talking about. If you like art, especially if you want to show off some of your local, or even personal stuff, show it to us. I don't really have anyone to talk to this stuff about, and it has been a long enough spell that I'm really starting to miss it.
Hope to see some cool stuff, and I'll be back to post some more.

M.C. Escher is another one of my favorites. He used a lot of geometry in his pieces, and pretty much everything I've seen of his is bad ass. Here are a few of my favorites.

Hand with Globe

Encounter

Reptiles

We can talk about stuff like this too.

But I'm pretty sure I'm rusty on all of my references to these periods, WRT dates, and styles, and regions. I would definately have to read back up on it to have a conversation on it.

Here is some I like, some I don't examples of SA art. The forst is a Pierneef, who was for very long one of SA's most famous artists, and his paintings go for huge amounts in SA. I am not a huge fan, but I did inherit one from my grandfather, and keep it as an investment
