I really like the first one.... A lot. I would like to find a bigger picture of it though so I can get a closer look. It looks alot like a cell-shaded picture. Cell shading is used in a lot of video games. I'll try to find an example. Are there art museums in SA?

This is a frame from a playstation game called Okami. It is a cell shaded game and you can kind of see the similarity, though it is not the best example I could probably find.

We even have a few art towns, whole little towns that where converted into art museums, like Clarens, in a beautifull mountains setting. I will try ad gt you alink for that first one.

I didn't mean it to sound like "Wow, Africa, do they even have art museums?" Where I live we only have one small art museum. So small that I wouldn't even really call it a museum. More like a small building with paintings insides. It only holds local stuff in it too. The closest real museum that I can think of is in Atlanta, Ga. It is the High Museum, and it is pretty bad ass. They actually have a partnership with the Louvre in Paris and get a lot of neat stuff. I haven't been in years and probably won't get too many opportunities to visit it because it would take a whole weekend. Oh well, here is a link to the High's website.

This is pretty cool. The High museum is having Lorenzo Ghiberti's "Gates of Paradise" on exhibit pretty soon.

Here is a detail of one of the plates.

Quote:
Ghiberti was born in Florence. He first became famous when he won the in 1401 competition for the second set of bronze doors for the baptistry of the cathedral in Florence. Brunelleschi was the runner up. The original plan was for the doors to depict scenes from the Old Testament, and the trial piece was the sacrifice of Isaac. However, the plan was changed to depict scenes from the New Testament, instead.

To carry out this commission, he set up a large workshop in which many artists trained, including Donatello, Masolino, Uccello, and Antonio Pollaiuolo.

When his first set of 28 panels was complete, Ghiberti was commissioned to produce a second set for the remaining doorway, this time with scenes from the Old Testament, as originally intended for his first set. Instead of 28 scenes, he produced 10 rectangular scenes in a completely different style. They were more naturalistic, with perspective and a greater idealization of the subject. Michelangelo dubbed these scenes the "Gates of Paradise."

I am always amazed at the detail they managed in those days. I mean, the workmanship, remembering the tools and stuff they had, it is just icredible!

NEW YORK -- World renowned artist Cosimo Cavallaro unveils his latest and most striking installation at the Lab Gallery (at the Roger Smith Hotel, 47th and Lexington avenue) in the early morning hours of April 1st.

Jesus, The 485,460-Calorie Messiah
Cavallaro's work, entitled "My Sweet Lord" is a 6 foot tall, anatomically correct sculpture of Jesus Christ in milk chocolate.

"I'm truly thrilled to be working with Cosimo again," says Matt Semler Creative Director of the Lab. "The sign of any great artist is how their work affects the observer. His art always gets a reaction, but this is the most dramatic piece of his career. It is absolutely amazing."

The exhibit can be viewed from the street when the velvet curtains of the gallery open from midnight to 1 AM and 6 PM to 7PM (starting April 1st and closing April 7th).

Although Cavallaro has work in permanent collections of museums world-wide, he is best remembered for covering a New York City hotel room in melted cheese (1999).
I'll try to find a picture, but do you guys consider this art? Or do you think it is someone doing something wildly extravagant to get attention, or piss people off?
