This one is the best IMO. Good detail.

I agree with seer. This one just seems a little bit more unique than the others.

You might be right.

The artists strength were architectural details. His weakness portraying people. (The first picture shows this contrast best)
If only the anatomy would have been mastered better by him, the world would be a different today.

agree. besides the composition of the second picture is too heavy in respect with the buildings like people are smashing under it.
the first one is the best.

The first picture shows actually the Viennese states opera. In fact the building is painted very realistically. I would go so far as to say, if not for the people it would be far away from obvious that this is a painting and not a photograph.

yet it's another weak point, that the building is too strong in comparison with the figures. like two different paintings are mixed.
so.. there is no "best" because other paintings also have flaws you can't overlook.

and the third one is not a painting more gets under category of sketches.

I was today at the opening of the Wiener Festwochen (Vienna festival) at the city hall square.
(The homepage of the Festwochen, in english:Wiener Festwochen: Home)

I can post this here without a question in this art category. Even though the opening is like always a great mixture out of old and new famous and not so well known. Like always it was about 2 hours show. It was aired on Austrian television and with 3sat also on European satellite (Astra). But the most important thing: Entrance to the show is for free.

The artists:
Joe Zavinul & Syndicate
Bobby Mc Ferrin
Viennese sinfonic orchestra
Hubert von Goisern and a number of (other) Austrian artists you hardly will know, among them contemporary pop bands.

I personally liked this artist I did not know before: Muhabbet (Muhabbet - Offizielle Homepage -->click here to hear his style). A German singer who brings in his Turkish background.

And of course Hubert von Goisern was great. He is in my eyes the sole person who interprets our own music tradition in a way I want to hear it. And not to forget he has really good texts, who can be also quite political. -->one of his classics to give you an idea what I am talking about:

YouTube - Hubert von Goisern - Heast as nit (his calmest and most powerful song)
YouTube - Koa Hiatamadl(one of his first works and most famous ones)
Hubert von Goisern might be known outside of Austria and Bavaria for his career in the world music scene.

Ah before I forget it. Those paintings I showed you above. (here: The ART thread)

The name of the artist is Adolf Hitler.
His application at the university of arts failed due to his lack of portraying skills. His eye for architecture and landscapes was however not bad. He tried the application test two times, but failed at both attempts with the portraits.
