Underage Marriage

Why not? We have gay marriage and bisexual marriage already.

Just for the heck of it, which is better: Me (34) marrying my 31 yo partner whom I love dearly, or moving to Mississippi and marrying an 11yo girl? It's legal there, with parental permission. Heck, I can marry your 15 yo daughter without your permission and there's nothing you can do about it. Which is more morally correct?

OK, it's all in the "society" thread now. Please make all such threads on this topic here now please. Philosophy is more about Plato, Lao Tzu, Nietzche and that sort of thing.

WEB
I agree. I was kind of surprised to find them here.

I oppose that.

First of all, its none of the business at all for the parents to decide about the marriage of their childrens, especially when they still are childs. We have allready let the times of aranged marriages behind us. No need to revive that without a need.

Secondly, a 13 year old girl is not allowed to buy cigarettes, alcohol, nor is it allowed to vote, drive a car, or to buy any larger stuff. For a good reason, because it most likely is not mature enough to stand straight for the responsabilities that brings with it. But now someone would like to tell me, that she should be allready allowed to marry? Thats a weird concept.

To compare this to gay marriage, where two people who are allready able to bear the responsabilities of their actions and do it out of their very own free will without harming anyone else, want to marry is baseless in my eyes.

I think I see, what you wanna say with it Coyote. But it does not work in my eyes. The lines of argumenation for/against both kinds of marriages are completely different.

I don't see any problem. It's a heterosexual marriage, right? That should be OK in a lot of people's eyes. According to many people, it's a far bigger sin for me to marry a guy than for me to marry a 12 year old girl.

I'm sure it was way before our time.
