Racial Off-Campus Party
I found this story sad that it would even be considered in good taste.
WEST HARTFORD -- The interim dean of the University of Connecticut School of Law has scheduled a schoolwide roundtable discussion for today to air concerns raised by a weekend off-campus party in which some law students dressed in hip-hop clothes and toted 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor.
Photos of the "Bullets & Bubbly" party were posted on the popular website facebook.com, dismaying some students who regarded the party theme as racially insensitive. Photos depicted partygoers wearing do-rags, muscle shirts, hoodies, and necklaces with gold medallions.

Unless they wore blackface I.... am really confused about how this is a problem. White people wear those clothes too... unless I am wrong.

I agree that whites adorn themselves in the clothing but I believe the stereotyping of the 40's and such was more to the point. The whole bling thing was also aimed at the blacks.

I'm a little torn on this one, I mean I make fun of that shit all the time. Not because it's a black thing... whites do wear that shit too, but because clothes like that make the wearer look like a fucking clown, nomatter what color a person is; red, black, green, purple. I don't think such a big deal would be made if a bunch of black people had a red neck party and went shoeless and in overalls.

I do not believe it was all about the clothing--it was the entire party thing.

Well I could see there being a problem if it were a party like that fraternity had at Auburn University where some of the brothers dressed up like kkk members and had the pledges dress like slave... with faces painted and everything. But if all they were making fun of was the hip hop lifestyle I don't see how anyone can really bitch about that. As far as I'm concerned lifestyles are always open season. To me that would be like if they made fun of Goths or Emo kids or rednecks.
It does piss me off a little that they are making such a big deal about it when it was a private party. If I were those guys I would be telling all of the critics looking down their nose at me to suck on my balls and to mind their own fucking business.

Yeah, I can't really accept the racism claim on this one. Hiphop Singers and Rappers wear those clothing, show THEMSELVES drinking 40's and wearing bling in their videos and whatnot.... sorry.. but... I see it more as making fun of the style than making fun of black people.
Come on, America... get a thicker skin already. I mean, Jebus Chrizzle, this is getting really stupid now. Offended over everything.

The Connecticut story is no big deal, IMO. It's a private function and ghetto fabulous is kind of funny, IMO.
The second story in Texas is just outright racism.
