I think many Chrisians would not vote for an atheist President becaus they assume that atheists are immoral. They probably would not believe the following:

Quote:
Divorce rates among conservative Christians were significantly higher than for other faith groups, and much higher than Atheists and Agnostics experience.
From: U.S. divorce rates: for various faith groups, age groups and geographical areas

-Prisons populations are less than 1% atheist/agnostic, while atheists are about 8-16% of the population.

Atheists Supply Less Than 1% Of Prison Populations It's suprising how many people say to m

I like the quote from that one saying, "Indifference to religion, due to thought, strengthens character." Americans probably wouldn't buy that in the foreseeable future. In fact, I think you'd have a better chance in France (most secular country) as an atheist American than in America.

Ah, tu parles Français? Moi aussi! Mais, seulement un petit peu.

Francais, c'est magnifique.

But anyway--I would vote for an atheist president if he or she could lead this country in the right direction and would not discriminate against those religious and theist folk in our country. It's gotta be a two way street and I highly doubt I'd see that--but If I did, sure there'd be no problem.

It seems to be a deeply American problem.

I'm Christian and religion is as much a reason to elect or not elect a politician as his hair color. But if I really really had to choose between an atheist and a christian solely based on that factor, I'd probably go for the atheist. Religion must have no place whatsoever in politics.

I would probably agree with France being the most secular country if it wasn't located in Europe where there is still strong anti-semitism (don't be fooled by such a long word, anti-semitism, I'm talking about an allied theme against jewish people).

Regarding the question asked by the OP I assume you are talking about being the President of the U.S. because it sounds ok in Europe to be atheist so far. Well if you are I believe even in America you can be atheist if you are still ok with others being theist.

Yes that's funny how many Americans are confusing French with Spanish. At least no one I know of does that down in Texas!!!

lol. I don't know a single second language, but I find it hard to believe you can confuse the two either unless your just memorizing phrases someone taught without really studying the language itself.
