Exactly and well put. Slavery has existed in the world since one group of people figured out they were stronger, smarter or had more numbers. As soon as this happened people began to become subjugated and subservient to someone else.

This site is a good source for info...pay attention to the right side where it has the slavery split up by region. As you will plainly see (And I do not condone what happened in America or anyone where else) slavery has been going on all over the globe since the dawn of time.

Remember the golden rule : He who has the gold (Or strength and number advantage) makes the rules...This also includes the subjugation of an entire people, take Egypt just for one example.

You don't hear alot about slavery in other countries much no one wants to air their dirty laundry. Slavery is wrong and I find it morally reprehensible as well as exceedingly distasteful but it has existed many years prior to what the ignorant red necks did in this country a couple hundred years ago.

Anyway that is all I have to say on this topic as most African Americans will view me as a racist (Which I am not)or worse, and not agree with my views.

The rhetoric used by Meeks is divisive. I would like to see black leaders use language that is more engaging to open the dialogue to all people.

Yes, but slavery was almost never based on race. Hell, the whole concept of race as we think of it wasn't being developed until the 1700s. Most slaves were people who were conquered by another nation.

And I agree that blacks (I am white, fyi) need to pick themselves up, but we are not giving them all of the tools that they need in order to do so.

We live in a society that is still in the process of geting over racism.

You should show some level of respect to all people, not after they do something to "earn" it.

And blacks don't receive the same level of basic respect as white people.

what did Lincon say?? if he could win the war without setting the slaves free he would do it. They needed paws to go on the front lines of their battles. Your were free if you joined their army and fought for your freedom in a war that really had nothing to do with them. They were pawns ask how many blacks died in those battles??
