fong it has been known for about 5 decades that the levies were bad. The Army Corps of Engineers and our state government has known that they wouldnt survive a Cat 3 storm.
Whether Bush knew or not is irrelevant to the real issue here in New Orleans. They have been talking about a big storm hitting NO for decades and how the levees wouldnt hold.
People want to blame Bush for it, then go ahead. At least those of us who live here and have seen the state government do nothing for decades about it know the truth and that is good enough for me.

Yes but again.
We are not talking about blame for the Levies.
George W Bush said on a TV interview, several days after Katrina, quite clearly, I did not know.
Then a video was released which quite clearly showed him in a video conference call with engineers quite plainly telling him that the levies were weak and would fail in the case of an extremely large storm.
At NO point have I blamed Bush for the problems that happened in New Orleans. Nor have I blamed him for not fixing the levies.
ALL I have done is point out that he lied. Which he did.
You can't defend that by saying what happened wasn't his fault, that has NOTHING to do with whether he lied.

its not his job to make sure the levies are working. its the state's job. this isn't britain where your country is the size of vermont. america is a lot bigger and if the feds were to get involved in every little project like that, we would all be bankrupt.
that is why we have state gov'ts.
as i said earlier, if you know new orleans, you will never blame bush or say he lied. the fact is, we have some of the most corrupt politicians here ever known to man kind. along with that, the public workers they hire here are just ridiculous. i have never seen mailman sit on their asses for so long and chat with their buddies for hours on end and get paid for it.
everything is different down here. i always tell outsiders who i see (b.c tourism is all new orleans has going right now) that new orleans is unlike the rest of america. and in some ways it is better, in others it is worse.
thank goodness i live in the garden district, the beverly hills or laguna beach of new orleans.

If it's purely a collision between vehicles and no one is injured, it is not a crime to drive off without leaving details. It is an offence. There is a difference.

I would tell them to go away and rethink their stance on 90 day detention, their stance on ID cards and their stance on the exclusion zone around Parliment, and then come back to the British people when they have decided to support us, and get the support they need.
|
As I said previously, it is the government - the legislating body - that you need to be telling. Not the police.

Superdude no one has said it was his job or is blaming him for what happened.
He was asked a question.
He lied.
There was video evidence of him saying it in an interview, and within a few short days a video conference call that was made between him and a group of I expect engineers, weather men and advisors, told him exactly what he denied knowledge of.
So he is either a liar or he is so inept that he doesn't even remember what he is told by his advisors about a massive incoming storm.

Back to the point of the thread.
Police ignore protest ban around parliment.
Other police do nothing.
BBC NEWS | Magazine | How can police protest at Parliament?
The police claim it is down to the Home Office to intepret if this is a crime, the Home Office insists it is the police.
Where were the police saying the Home Office must decide if Milan Rai or Maya Evans were 'protesting'?
Oh thats right, cause they can use their discretionary powers when it suits them. Screw the public and our rights, but when they want to protest and are refused permission, they just do it anyway.
Who is to arrest them after all?
Of course come monday, they will be back on duty waiting to arrest you, and me and anyone else that dares to protest about stuff that is important to them.
