Wow!

You have a geniunely profound understanding of exactly what atheists 'believe' and this is only surpassed by your clearly impressive knowledge and understanding of science.

Thrall me with your acumen.

This is contrary to the popular atheist belief that religion is an absence or void of mind.

What then do I mean by asking for more evidence than there is?

Let us say for our purposes that you do not know anything about watches. What then could you tell me about the maker of a watch if that watch were found on a beach with no other evidence of its existence except itself? Would you be able to tell me who made it? Would you be able to tell me where it came from? Or even how it was made?

The watch naturally is a metaphor for the universe and obviously the watch maker a metaphor for God.

The problem I think atheists have is they would contest that the situation's parameters are not reality - the Universe is not a watch made by some "God".

However, I would contest that the situation is the exact same.

At first examination of this strange device washed ashore, we would give it almost magical power. It has a face that has several arms which go in circles with seeming infinite precision - never failing - the meaning of which we would not understand for quite some time.

To open it would reveal a mechanism of incredible precision and complexity which would be inconceivable to our immediate understanding.

But given time, perhaps in creating our own watches, the way we might farm the fields or tame the winds with our sailing ships, or create fire from the atoms themselves in our Nuclear Power Plants, we would slowly come to understand the nature of watch making.

And as such we could make assumptions about its origin. Because it is a watch and if we ourselves could make a watch we would easily argue that the originator must have been another like ourselves, a human, mortal, and probably after the considerable time taken to discover this fact, a creator who had long since passed away.

But the fact remains - that we can only assume who the creator was - the evidence is only circumstantial, that is to say there is an effect, and so we assume the cause.

With the Universe we are not yet to the stage of creation of anything, we take one thing and transform it into another often without human processes but other natural processes.

In that truth lies the phrase by Carl Sagan (a brilliant philosopher) that:

To create an Apple Pie you must first create the Universe.

The Universe does exist - it is our circumstantial evidence. But to the Atheist this is not enough. The mechanism of creation is not enough but he must find the creator in order to believe there is one at all.

We can argue there is a "Big Bang" or that "String Theory" and the "Braines" answers the mechanism for the creation of our universe.

But the creator will never be revealed. What created the "Braines", what caused the Big Bang to happen? And should we find a mechanism that caused that - then what caused that mechanism and so on?

And so the exercise in thoughtfulness that is religion surpasses the limitations of a scientific mind. A man who reduces himself to only believing what he has tangible evidence of is not a logical or intelligent man at all.

In court circumstantial evidence is more than enough to convict a man of the most heinous crimes including Murder and Treason (the toughest to gain a conviction).

And yet still through his arrogance the ''atheist'' proclaims that God is a figment of the imagination.

Should I present the Atheist with the watch found upon the beach, and say to him "this was created by a man" and the Atheist were to reject my faith in that assumption by saying there is not a man who exists that he has known that can create such a mechanism, then by our technological sensibilities, who is the craziest of the two of us?

So when I present that same Atheist with a single grain of sand and say "there is a God who created this grain of sand" and the Atheist says that there is no God which can create that grain of sand, who is the craziest of the two of us?

Is it the faithful for believing that our lack of ability to understand some things requires faith in many things; or is it the Atheist who believes he is so almighty that he can understand the purpose of his own self let alone that of others, and especially the purpose of something so simple and small as a single grain of sand, enough for him to argue that such an item so infinitely beyond his capability to create from nothing, should be created by nothing.
I don't think the most ask question is if God created the universe{at least not by me}, but what purpose it is to have.

Think about this for a minute

I actually have personal experience of this sort, it may help my point. I got a concussion when I was a kid, around 12 years old, and when I had the trauma I could have sworn that I was turning left, while my whole body swayed to the right. My head was spinning so much, and my logic so impaired I couldn't distinguish the difference.

Another example that may help; there is a medical story of a guy who had damage to his brain, and couldn't perceive the left side of his body. He would draw self portraits of only his right half. When asked about the other side of his body, he just couldn't perceive it. it was out of his mind. To him there was no other side. Brain damage can cause some pretty screwed up things, which shows us that logic is all relative.

So what if we're all just equally impaired, and 2+2 is actually 5. We just can't think straight. Thus based on this we can conclude, there is no truth, there is only relative truth. What we perceive to be true according to our capability and outlook.

We could be incapable of understanding our own beginnings, maybe the answer to the beginnings is the real answer to 2+2, but we cannot figure it out. So many make up an all powerful being to solve the problem. The problem with that is then the question of what created this all powerful being comes up. There is always going to be the question of "Well what caused that", whether you believe in naturalism, that the universe just is as it is, or that a god created it.

Why must a person believe in something that is all powerful. Why is faith in a being we have never encountered a good thing? The idea of a god is impossible to prove or disprove, it is the funniest idea to explain everything because of that.

Are not people with faith not asking for enough evidence instead of the opposite? Someone somewhere along the line came up with the idea of god (or if you're religious god put it there) that there could be an omnipotent power in the universe. Why must the burden be on the skeptic and not the believer.

You know, its pretty selfish and arrogant for anyone (not just you) to think that we are it, whether you are speaking in science or religious terms. I for one hand have faith that there is a GOD that may have played a part in creation, but I also have faith in science to determine exactly how that creation happened. Why cant religion and science go hand in hand.

And for the record, to all you atheists, The Holy Bible wasnt to be taken literally word for word.... just like Shakespere had his metaphors and stuff, the Bible has its own for the style of language they spoke back then.... If you think that the Bible is really telling people that everything was created in 7days, than you (meaning atheists in general) are so literal, I hope no one tells you to break a leg before doing something publically. How do you know what the time frame was meant to describe? Could one day maybe represent a million lightyears? Maybe..... my point is, The Bible is not to be taken literally, so for those who use that as an arguing point should lose it.

I am a catholic, born and raised. And I can truly say that I have faith because throughout my entire life I have questioned my faith. My dad and I were big science buffs and at the time, science seemed to completely go against my faith, so I re-evaluated. Then I came across some very persuasive atheists who were very good at smooth talking, I questioned my faith, and re-evaluated it.

Heres the biggest evidence that I truly have faith.... almost 4 years ago, when I was 15, my dad died in a car accident. He was only 33 years old. My mom was 32 and my brother 13. He died a week after easter, 8 days after we got back from one of our best family vacations ever, 5 days before my moms birthday, 11 days from their 15 wedding anniversery, and he was creamated on my moms birthday.

I was so angry, if there was a god, how could he let this happen? My daddy was too young and I was too young, and my mom and my brother, I didnt even have my license yet, something that he was excited about helping me with, he wouldnt/didnt see me graduate, he wont be there to see me get married or have the father/daughter dance with, he wont be there to see his first grandchild, he wont be there to he teach my children the things that he enjoyed teaching me. How is this fair..... there cant be a god and if there is then he is an evil bastard, I was DONE with my faith all together.

My dad was skeptical about God, because as I said before he was a science buff, but he had mentioned many times before and we followed his wishes to have him blessed by a priest before he was creamated, just in case there really was a God and heaven. And I usually do not believe in people speaking to you through your dreams, but I have no doubt that he spoke to me.

My dad taught me how to play the keyboard, and I had a dream one night that he came back after being gone for WAY too long, we started to eat dinner. He stopped. Told me to go with him. He went to my keyboard and said I want to show you something. And as he pressed the keys on my keyboard THE most amazing sound I had ever heard came out. It was a sound that is un-worldly. When many people think of heaven they think of angels and their singing and stuff, thats what this sounded like. One key let out like 50 sounds in harmony and it was the most unreal and beatiful thing that I had ever heard.

So as far as religion goes, I do believe that there is a God, I do believe that there is a heaven, until you can give me cold hard evidence that there is not, you are wasting your time with the godless preaching. I went through things that kids should never have to go through, and yet I still believe that there is a God.

Now for my next point, saying that there isnt a god because there is no proof, is like saying that out of all the planets, in all of the solar systems, in all of the galaxies, in the entire universe there is NO other life except for us. There is no proof saying that there is..... but its pretty ignorant to say that there isnt.... dont you think?

Many people dont understand that there is a big difference between religion and faith.

Religion is the standardized way of believing, the basic principles that your faith is based on, it doesnt mean that you believe everything that way. Catholics believe in the death penalty but are against abortion, I know catholics that are for abortion and Catholics that are against the death penalty.

Faith is what you believe in. I believe that there is a God who was a part of creation, I believe that there is a heaven. I do NOT believe that he controls our every move. I DO believe that he has a time for us to go naturally, when we are old and frail..... but I DO belive that humans can make the intercept and cause themselves to go before their time.... example.... smoking and dying of heart disease..... drinking and dying of liver disease or in a drunk driving accident, being stupid and jumping off of a bridge onto the concrete below..... those are all decisions that we as people, ourselves, can make to end our lives quicker.

I have no doubt that God did not plan for my daddy to leave us that young, but he was stupid and did something that ended his life faster than God intended. I DO not believe in the crap of God stopping the dying process that humans caused..... like if someone jumps off of a bridge and they wake up in the hospital with 70 broken bones, a concussion, no nose, a steel jaw and skull and they say that they saw the light and God told them that it wasnt their time.... I (PERSONALLY) believe that that is crap......

But everyone has their own faith for their own reasons, and I feel that my faith doesnt affect anyone else, nor does anyone elses faith/or lack there of affect me. So let people believe what they want until you get cold hard proof one way or the other. Because sometimes all people have is their faith..... If I didnt believe in heaven, that means that I will never see my daddy again, and thats just not something that I can live with.

So for all of you atheists, instead of trying to convince people with some kind (any kind) of faith that they are wrong, why dont you take a look at how selfish and ignorant it is to believe that there is no higher being than human itself..... Worship a beetle if you want, people need to have faith in something, otherwise, what is the point of living, if when its all over there is nothing?

I never said you could prove there is no god. I do believe you can logically prove that there is no evidence of one. Deism vs. Atheism will be a debate for the rest of time, as neither can disprove the other.

What can be deduced is that the belief in god originates from "What if" thinking. There is no reason based on what we see in our world to think there must be a supernatural force behind it all. Thus the belief in gods originates with the line of thinking, "what if there are gods who created all of this".

The Christian God, I can say without a doubt does NOT exist in the form that the Christians believe him to. If he really was omnipotent and loved us all so much, he sure is a sick bastard for making everyone suffer their entire lives. For the default human condition is one of suffering, pain, and sadness. This can only be changed by our own actions. German philosophy like Schopenhaurer and Nietzsche cover this some.

I don't think it logical to assume we are "it" in the universe. Out of Billions and billions of galaxies, and possibly even other universes, there must be other intelligent life, and other forces. But to say we know what the other forces are, and that its an omnipotent all loving god is foolish.

Religion is a product of human thinking to comfort people. To help them live with the massive void that is our lack of understanding of the world around us. An atheist who says they know without a doubt what exists and what does not would be as foolish as a Christian claiming they know the exact nature of the universe and it is their god Yahweh.

My posts on religion are always advocating agnosticism, skepticism of what beliefs others hold. I think that actually thinking about theology, philosophy and our existence is truly enlightening. Where you use your religion to ponder your existence, I study German philosophy and reason with my own thinking.

God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain" (Revelation 21:4).

God gave us law to live by, yet man rejected it, mocked it. The Son of God came down to man, and man beat him, tortured him, whipped and insulted him, nails were driven into his flesh and bone... and this endured all because... God hates us. Here is a better question for you, why does not God destroy us all?

If there was a God who was truly omnipotent the alpha and omega, then he would have known before even making the law that we were incapable of following it.

If he really was so all powerful, he was the one who created us with our flaws, then made laws we could not follow. And has only himself to blame.

If there is an omnipotent god, he either didn't directly create us, is indifferent to us, or if he did directly make us, he likes seeing us suffer. Creating severely flawed beings, then making laws they can't follow is cruel. Making the default existence one of pain and suffering is cruel. Making us so we constantly abuse each other by nature is cruel.

I have always thought that if the world was completely easy and everyone was happy than life would be too easy and therefor have no point. If there is a god maybe life is just a test to see what our real charactor is. Like you said people can only become happy by their own actions and people can only "pass" life by their own actions in the eyes of god.

Well yes, in our current form life would be utterly boring if it weren't for us trying to counter the suffering of existence. Feeding ourselves, living better, finding love, etc.

However, this is only our current state, I imagine it could be possible to be different, where we do not need this suffering to content ourselves. Perhaps there could be some form of existence where everyone could be perfectly content, but not bored to death.
