Sometimes rhetorical points are made in the form of a question, just like answers on Jeopardy.
If a crazy man stopped you on the street and told you that Satan was standing directly behind him, you might smile and ask him what Satan is wearing. That doesn't mean you're actually curious.

That is cute, but out of context. I am sure if I wanted to play this game I could find a passage or two in the Bible. Woulod that make you a christian extremist?
OOps, would be better to read all and not skip. Good post Trips.

I've been meaning to do it anyways, but if I get home from work early enough tonight I'll try to look up all the global conflicts that muslims are currently involved with and/or are the cause of. I realize that there are a great many muslims who ARE peaceful and only want to live their lives, but there are a whole bunch of them who would love nothing more than to cut our heads off and have us submit to sharia law. For every "christian" who would kill in the name of the God there are probably 1,000 Muslims who would kill in the name of the allah. Hell, maybe even 10,000. It would be great if we knew which muslims in the ME were extremists and which were not. I guess what really kills me about this is while we "can not" show apprehension towards Muslims, because hey, they are not all "like that" it is perfectly acceptable to make broad generalizations about lets say southerner, they are all inbred, or Americans, they are all rich assholes, or white people, they all want to see minorities held down. If you are a minority you are off limits from reasonable discretion or criticism, but if you are white, or in a position of prosperity its open fucking season, shit or Jewish for that matter. We're too worried about being called a racist or a facist or whatever that we are willing to throw caution to the wind and hope that we won't get attacked again. We've turned into a bunch of pussies.

(1) Whether or not it is 'culturally acceptable' to make sweeping generalizations about Muslims, southerners or anyone else, it is stupid to do so.
(2) I would be interested if, as a corollary to your study, you researched what percentage of Muslims live in impoverished conditions or under despotic regimes, as compared to what percentage of Christians do.

A point about Muslim extremists: what we mean by this is really the middle eastern Muslims. They make up about 14% of the world's Muslims. Half of the world's muslims live in Indonesia and India. A large number of Muslims also live in central Asia, formerly ruled by the USSR. These types of Muslims are what we would call "liberal", the ones we call "extreme" are by and large found in the Middle East.

A million people are expected to descend on Konya, a city in central Turkey, from December 10-17 for a mystical dance festival. And we're not talking about ballet, salsa, hip hop, tap or hip-swinging Bollywood boogying. The Whirling Dervishes Festival is in a class all of its own, highlighting a spiritual dance form that is believed to help dancers attain a union with God.
Who are the Whirling Dervishes?
The Whirling Dervishes are a part of the Sufi branch of Islam, known for its mysticism and asceticism. Scholars of Sufism have defined it in many different ways throughout the times, but they all agree on its fundamental character as being the inner, esoteric, mystical, or purely spiritual dimension of Islam. To become a Dervish, one must take a vow of poverty and live in monastic conditions, similar to Christian monks. For these Dervishes, spinning is their way of worshipping God.
What is this festival about?
The festival commemorates the death of a great philosopher and mystic of Islam, Mevlana (also known as Rumi) whose doctrine advocates unlimited tolerance, positive reasoning, goodness, charity and awareness through love. His philosophy is encapsulated in one of his poems:
Come come whoever you are
Whether you are a non-believer,
Whether you worship fire or an idol,
Whether you have repented a hundred times,
Whether you have broken a vow of repentance a hundred times,
This is not a vow of desperation;
Come however you are.

I can see what yall are saying. However, if Muslims are peaceful, explain to me why 90-95% of all current conflicts on earth are Muslims fighting either themselves or someone else, and why over 700 million Muslims live under dictatorships.
