Bah, it wasn't so bad. Wait it was. But it's fine now.

Hey Atticus,

I survived a near fatal illness 6 years ago. After, I had no energy whatsoever. Couldn't talk, walk, even stand, moving around every limb was painful (to the degree that holding a newspaper made my arms hurt, you just have no idea that can happen to a person) my brain didn't function properly...this last was very difficult for everyone because I'd always been the organiser and the one who drove things and got it done. Suddenly they were out there, having to think for themselves
Recovery is very slow and gradual. When I restarted talking, my words were confused. Later, they'd be mostly right, but I'd swap the two most key words in a sentence This caused utter confusion, but my family knew and worked round it and we decided to laugh at it...what else can you do?
I'd go out for lunch with my friends and be ok for about an hour, then I'd just shut down, turn white as my circulation was bad, start fighting exhaustion, it was a nightmare. You have never realised how much energy just conversing requires, it felt like running a marathon to me.
It seemed to work as if your body takes all the resources it has and focuses them on repairing the absolutely essential. Talking, walking, thinking...they're not really essential to survival.
With time it all came back, although I still tire more easily than before, I'll never be robustly athletic again although I am back at the gym and up to 20 minutes on that feckin treadmill, and my brain is not close to the steel trap it was before. But compared to how I was in the first stages after the illness, the improvement is unbelievable, so I'm sure it will continue.
I hope this is how it will be for you. You may start to notice you can do some little things you couldn't do before. Your illness has a good recovery rate these days.
Take care.
Sorry to hear about your illness Viv but glad to see you are recovering well and I'm sure Atticus will take great heart from your words of support. Well done, you're a right wee trouper.
Yer wit didny take long tae come back did it?
I'm off to watch Celtic on Sky. If you've only got council tele you're quite welcome to pop round

Celtic, Rangers, ANYBUDDY AT ALL WI A FOOTBALL...I married a South American hombre, he's addicted to football and has no affiliation to any particular team so he watches them all. We have every channel known to man. It's horrific. But it gives me time to gas here on the laptop.
And it looks like it's going the same way as last night...0-0... what's the point of it??
Thanks for your comments, the illness was bad but a long time behind me now.
The "wit" returned with a vengeance...as rubbish as ever it was.

I like that ; a philosophy thread becomes about football. Really deep thinkers philosophers are My man is football crazy, he would watch it day and night if I let him.

A really deep thinkers philosophers thread on football? You wouldn't dare start one. No, I take that back, you would. Anyway, it would get about three posts, probably all one-liners.
