When people talk about extremism these days, Islam immediately comes to mind. well, this sad fact can be attributed to the ideals of a handful of extremists like that of Osama Bin Laden.
Throughout history, we have seen the development and evolution of religious orders. when i say development, i don't mean positive development necessarily. We know the accounts that tell about the bloody and genocidal crusades of the past. we know the horrible fates that so-called heathens and unbelievers have suffered... we know the tolls that extremism has taken in the past.
Even today... we see extremism everywhere... yes, everywhere... and to truly know what i mean by this statement... you have to examine, and find the true meaning of extremism... of course like any other term that is open to interpretation... people might attribute extremism, only to those who use bombs in the name of their gods......

I say... this is a narrow interpretation of the word... I believe that there is more to this.

So what's your definition of the word extremism?

Extremism, i believe, is the over-acting and over re-acting of people whose loyalties lie with specific religious orders. Extremism is also characterized by religious intolerance, indifference, and constant scrutiny of other people who do not share the same beliefs and sentiments... It is believing in the idea that all others are heathens and sinful... it is the belief that the only way to salvation is to accept the promoted religion. Extremism is a result of narrow ways of thinking... not being able to look at both sides. Extremism is the excessive enmeshment of an individual with a religious belief or ideal that causes him or her to overlook things and to shun other beliefs and practices that do not come into terms with his or her own.
