It's obvious that Adam and Eve's offspring mated with each other shortly after creation, just as the offspring of animals did after the flood. For whatever reasons that are not mentioned in the Bible, this was forbidden by the LORD thousands of years later when He gave the Hebrew law to Moses shortly before they became a nation and settled in Palestine. The Bible gives no explanation why, just like it gives no explanation for a few other things.

Either way, I would have to imagine that whether we believe in creationism or evolution, there had to have been some sort of mating taking place between offspring after coming from a common origin "in the beginning".

I'm going to go ahead and stick with the theory of evolution but I'd like to see what other God-fearing Christians have to say about something that isn't explicitly mentioned in the Bible.
I can't tell you with complete confidence what the main view among Creationists is, but I believe it's that the first few generations were incestuous.

Actually, the Bible account is rather confusing, as both Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 give accounts of the creation of humanity. Genesis 1 does not appear to say explicitly (the wording is complicated, to fully understand I'd guess you'd have to read the original Hebrew, which I for one have no ability to do) that Adam was the man originally created, or indeed that God only created one man and woman (though I have heard, and I mean heard from non-Creationist sources, that genetic testing indicates that everyone is descended from 1 woman).

Genesis 1, 26-28
Quote:
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
It says he created humans male and female, but not that there were only one of each.

Genesis 2, 4-25
Quote:
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens- 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, 6 but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- 7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

10 A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) 13 The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, '
for she was taken out of man."

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Here we have another account of the creation of man, in which there is, at first glance, only the two humans originally. However, while it doesn't mention them, it doesn't rule out the existence of other humans.

Later, they have children. The eldest son, Caine, murders his younger brother Abel, and is exiled to the east. He marries and has sons. Adam later has another son, Seth, who also marries and has children. Adam "has other sons and daughters". The problem is that while Caine and Seth must have been the eldest sons, the genealogies of the time rarely bothered to record daughters, so while the names of the wives of Cain and Seth are recorded, it doesn't say if they are Adam and Eve's daughters or not.

To be fair, if the story is true, it happened thousands of years before people learnt to write, so you wouldn't really expect a perfect account. Personally, I don't think that it is as it appears in a literal context, but the creation story does contain a number of very important moral and theological lessons... which I'll explain if anyone cares. But you're probably bored by now.

As I said, I have heard that geneticists believe we are all descended from one woman (though there is no proof we are all descended from one man), which would mean her children would have to reproduce between them.

Not necessarily true. Her children would/could have mated with other non-whatever-they-were and their genes were spread... natural selection choosing those who were best suited to survive.. and eventually turned out to be us.

When animals mate with siblings... the result is genetic mutation and eventually sterility. The reason why incest is outlawed and seen as taboo is because the children that are produced are severely handicapped and disabled (both physically and mentally) and definitely are not suitable to carry on the society. This was learned a long time ago by many animals and humans alike.

Instead of posting, why do you not read Genesis. It states that Adam and Eve produced two sons; Cain and Able. Caine slew Able. Caine left the garden of Eden, went to the land of Nod where he took a wife. That is what the Bible says. Note that I am an atheist, but have studied the Bible...obviously unlike some of the posters here.
I kind of wonder where the people in the land of Nod came from.

I've actually read the Bible from cover to cover three times. Been studying it for the last 10 years.

The Bible does not state Cain met his wife in Nod, it states that he laid with his wife after settling in Nod. There is a big difference. Who do you think his wife was? It was obviously one of his sisters that the Bible does not mention. Adam and Eve were told to fill the earth, and I imagine they didn't waste any time doing that after being expelled from the Garden of Eden, especially given the importance of children helping to tend the fields and flocks in those days. Cain and Abel were the focus of a an important incident, which is probably why they were the only children referenced, but it does not mean they didn't have any sisters. When stating genealogies, especially in the book of Genesis, the Bible rarely mentioned daughters or other children who were not the eldest.
