"Insulting for Jews"

Jewish groups around the world have condemned Pope Benedicts new version of an old Good Friday Prayer that many claim is anti-semitic. But some of the strongest protests came from the Popes native country. A prominent german Rabbi explains why......

When is this obsessiveness going to stop for goodness sakes.

Look, like it or not and according to the Gospels (the Gospels repeatedly refer to “the Jews,” “the Pharisees,” “the Sadducees), Jesus was crucified over the Easter period. Those supposedly accountable, if of course you believe that the gospels and its accompanying religious text is the 'real' thing, then the Jewish people at the time did not believe Jesus was the Saviour.

I can see no reason why the Catholic Church should wipe this section of biblical text to pander to anyone.

Why should it be censored, wiped from history. I see no reason why Christians if they so wish, should not pray for the enlightenment of the Jewish people to recognize Jesus during the Easter Festival, after all each and every organized religion wants to recruit do they not?

Or do we prevent free speech just because those of another faith take umbrage? I see no-one taking umbrage on behalf of muslims who feel the cartoons denigrating their version of ' God' is an outrage.

Those who practice Judaism do not believe Jesus existed, do we see Christians up in arms, protesting, wanting parts of the Hebrew bible removed?

I personally think it is time a proportion of Jewish people stopped using the Holocaust as an ongoing tool to prevent anyone and I mean anyone from using free speech, just because they are so overly sensitive to any form of critisism.

It is also, in my opinion, about time that people stopped treading on eggshells to accommodate such people, in my opinion they are equally dangerous.

The argument is, that the Jewish people have been marginalized and alienated in the past and must now ensure this does not happen again.

That is understandable, but not to such an extent that they become exactly what they fight against.

Although I respect the Jewish culture and religion I can not condon this.
The fact is this is minor to a thread that was posted called .
"It's stupid to beleive in God."
I beleive in God does that automaticly make me a stupid person.
I can not speak for others but I do not go around saying "Atheist are morons"
That would be stupid.
Any person has a right to beleive what they choose if their beleifs are challenged they have a right to defend it,but if someone is critisiseing your beleif why should you even bother with a response.
A televagical preacher once said on national T.V. that all jews were going to Hell I expected a very heated response from the Jewish people, but all that happened was a letter sent to the preacher condeming his remarks.
Did this change the preachers mind no.
Did hordes of Jewish people come to get baptised no.
Bottom line beleifs belong to the individual
"any beleif" it is the individual's decision to keep that beleif no matter what is said or written down.

I have heard many stupid people pontificate on a variety of subjects, and they will, at some point always state that they are not stupid. I think if I reach the point of having to tell folks one way or the other then the jig is up. I suggest you ponder to what degree we are all the products and prisoners of our prejudices and beliefs.

Insulting the Jews is cheap; and affording the privilage is dear.

Elaborate and in what context?

You think the writings of the Gospels are cheap and insulting?

I don't think anything should be done about it. Us Catholics are praying, we believe, to better the Jews. The prayer is made in good intention. Now if it said, "God, please stike down the Jews" I could see the problem. A prayer was also said for Athiest and non-Catholics to convert because we believe it would better them.

No, but Catholics are just doing what they think is right. We don't want them to believe something if it is not true, and Catholic believe that Jesus is the Messiah proclaimed in the Old Testament.

I don't think I'm better than the Jews. Jesus was a Jew. Cathalosisms comes from the Jews.
