Albninonewt's banning

Obama's message resonates for one reason and one reason only.

It is completely unencumbered by reality.

Fantasy is great, that's why they call it fantasy. Obama's message is vague and positive, and that makes it easy to buy into. "We'll make everything better, all you have to do is hope" is more or less what his message is and that message is great.

What's too bad is that it is simply not true. Remember one thing about Obama up until this point. He's playing to mostly the activist base against an opponent who has almost the exact same policy profile. He has electrified them solely due to sheer force of personality, which he has in a near limitless capacity.

If he has to run an issues based and substantive campaign against McCain he's going to run into some real problems. He can probably overcome them but his Messianic image will probably be a casaulty of doing so.

On the other hand. He's a charismatic, young, fresh, black face standing next to a shriveled old mean white guy. The image of the two of them standing side by side is going to be so powerful he might not ever have to engage at an issues based level.

But one thing should be clear. Obama can not deliver on what he promises. He promises a fantasy and he will deliver with reality. It can't be any other way.

Unless you are one of those people, then the whole "big government" rhetoric is total bullshit, as there is no "big government" telling you what to do, unless you are one of those kinds of people.

If you consider a government mandate telling you that your children must be covered under a health plan, telling you what to do, and you consider that "big government", then that would be different, although still moronic.
Government mandates what fuel efficiency your car has to get. It mandates what therpeutic drugs are allowed to be sold. How many liters of water your toilet is allowed to use per flush. Government takes your money and gives it to other people. Government pays for "public television" and pays for art.

There is nothing anyone does in their life that isn't regulated, mandated, controlled, or at the very least influenced by the government. How only a moron could think that that somehow translates into big government is beyond me.

And yes, a government mandate telling me I have to do something to being the same as the government telling me what to do. Mostly because that's exactly what it is. And if thinking that is moronic then what are the people that don't think that? If I'm a moron for thinking being told what to do is the same as being told what to do then what is the person who thinks being told what to does isn't the same as being told what to do?

I like how WEB gives me an infraction for pointing out how flawed his position is but is unwilling or incapable of defending it.

FWIW

For most people who get banned, their banning doesn't get discussed in public. I'll make an exception in your case since your comments were somewhat intelligent. You just talked too much shit.

Anyway, here's a copy of the private message I sent to you when I permanently banned you.

Dear Albinonewt,

You have received an infraction at Political Forum - US & World Political Discussion Forums.

Reason: Permanent Ban
-------
Whoa. You've made several really bad statements here. I'm permanently banning you. Here's why:

* I've been ignoring you, yet you continue replying to my posts anyway. That's just pathetic and trollish. For an adult, when someone is ignoring them, they don't keep talking to them FOR MONTHS. I really didn't care about you replying to me for about 4 or 5 months while I ignored you, but I just have to point out how pathetic it is for you to keep on talking to someone who obviously doesn't want to talk to you.

* OK also you reply to me with this in private messages: "All due respect, but as the party holding the position I carefully articulated as idiotic I would request that my infration be handled by a moderater not affiliated with the comment." You just called me an idiot.

* Then you questioned forum moderation in public, which is explicitly against forum rules.

* Lastly, you lied about what I was saying. You know I've been ignoring you for months but you said that I was "unwilling or incapable of defending it". Both are false. I am unwilling to discuss politics, not unwilling to defend my position. Also, I am more than capable of defending anything from what you say.

You tallied yourself quite a rapsheet here and now you are permanently banned form this forum. You'll be wasting your time if you try to appeal. You're way over the line. Find yourself a new site or blog to post on.

Made one typo here. This: "I am unwilling to discuss politics, not unwilling to defend my position."

Should read: "I am unwilling to discuss politics with you, not unwilling to defend my position."

Thread closed. For reading only.
