Question Elton John: Internet Should Be Shut Down

Okay, so first he said that religion should be banned; and now he saying that the Internet should be shut down. I used to have nothing against Elton John, but today it seems his statements are out of touch with reality.

Elton John has said the internet is killing creativity and should be shut down.

He believes that the technology was stopping people going out and interacting with other artists, as well as making the general population too passive.

“Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet," he told in an interview.

“Let’s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging. I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span."

He described himself as a luddite when it comes to technology and said he didn't own a mobile phone or an iPod.

In the past however he has been more than willing to use the internet, this year putting his entire back catalogue online for paid downloads. He also streamed his 60th birthday concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden live online.

In the interview John also decried the state of modern music:

“In the early seventies there were at least ten albums released every week that were fantastic," he said.

“Now you’re lucky to find ten albums a year of that quality. And there are more albums released each week now than there were then.”

How can you possibly say that about a guy that dresses like this in public...

You just gotta love the old goat. He says he's clueless about technology but wants the Internet shut down.

But he's not ALL bad. Anyone who says, "Since when has lip-synching been live?" "Anyone who lip-synchs in public on stage when you pay $134 to see them should be shot." is okay by me.

The internet should be shut down? That's possibly one of the most idiotic statements I've ever heard.

He better not let Al Gore hear him say that. (That was Gore that said he invented it right?)

I'd say Sir Elton looks hilarious in MOST of the outfits he wears.

Of course. Gore taking credit for one of his many inventions in recent times. The most recent being the phenomenon of global warming.

For someone that is still living off of songs from the '60s and '70s (I think), yet has been releasing new music which is terrible, I don't think he should be the one to criticize anything. He can indulge himself in his Gay Pride efforts or whatever the f... he does. Good riddance, what an old fool.

Elton John is adding on to a long list of celebrities that I deem unintelligent.

Well.... to be honest we have gained a lot of social problems since the internet came about. As for shutting it down? Won't happen. But... I dunno. I know I spend too much time on it. ^_^

My question would be why anyone would assume a celebrity was intelligent to begin with. Intelligence is measured on something other than musical or acting skills. Talent doesn't equal smarts.
