American sues CERN for risking total destruction of earth

An American living in Hawaii has sued the European nuclear laboratory CERN for its Large Hadron Collider that is going into service soon, starting accelerations in June 2008. CERN has been sued at a district court in Hawaii by a botanist (who is also lawyer and had been one time nuclear safety officer) and a self described "author and researcher on time theory".

The two fear that it will create black holes that are going to eat up the entire earth and maybe even more.

The US is no member of CERN even though American companies and scientists are working with CERN as well.

If you want to read more about it have a look at the homepage of the self declared "LHC defence" league that is ready to recieve your donations in order to safe the world from CERN:

In case you want to get back to reality please have a look at the homepage of cern. In case you want to know what really is going to happen:
CERN - European Organization for Nuclear Research

Here is an article from swissinfo about this all:
swissinfo - Black hole-fearing duo seeks to stop the opening of world's largest particle accelerator

Likely, you wouldn't feel anything

The things people will sue for I hope CERN countersues him (assuming this thing even makes it to court... somehow) and gets some more money.

Do you know how small the chances are for making a black hole big enough to destroy the Earth? Energy is VAST amounts plus a SHIT load of recourses. We're doing small-minor black holes which are hamless.

From human perspective the current US administration seems to be far more dangerous than any black hole in the Universe. US invasions, bases, weaponry and military are engulfing the world much faster than any particle about to be accelerated in CERN. Can we get them in court?
Try International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration
For many other solutions see the Peacefederalists

myahhhh -

They should just chill out -I mean...which of our discoveries has ever had adverse effects on us -even accidentally? (sarcasm)

It is not inconceivable that -left to ourselves -someday we might make a discovery or have an accident that doesn't allow us the opportunity to say "ooops" -but making things go really fast and seeing what happens when they smack into each other is just plain fun. As long as they are just little black holes -what's the problem? They might accidentally find out how to make your cell phone work better, too -so quit whining! (also sarcasm)

..but seriously -there are so many better things to do with our resources -so many serious problems that need solving before any of this knowledge can be of true benefit.

No, there really isn't imo, insight into the quantum world is totally necessary asap for all sorts of reasons.

CERN - The use of basic science

The US's major failing was letting our super collider fail and now our funding at the next one has failed too. We are falling behind.
