Gangs And The Military
This is a bit disturbing, at least to me.
Members of the Hells Angels, including an Army lieutenant colonel from Illinois, have served the U.S. military in Iraq. Another Iraq war veteran, a Marine who belongs to the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang, is charged with shooting three teens in Aurora.
They are examples of growing gang activity in the military, which "poses a threat to law enforcement officials and national security," according to a new FBI report obtained by the Sun-Times.
"The military enlistment of gang members could ultimately lead to the worldwide expansion of U.S.-based gangs," the report warned.
The report by the FBI's National Gang Intelligence Center said gang members sneak into the military by failing to report criminal convictions or using fake documents. Some have sealed juvenile records unavailable to recruiters. And most of the recruiters are not properly trained to recognize gang affiliation, the report said.
"Military recruiters under pressure to meet recruiting goals have engaged in criminal violations such as overly aggressive recruiting tactics and document falsification," said the report.

I had read a similar report a couple of months ago but I did not give it much thought, until I read this, which is similar.

The army has lowered its standards in a significant manner to meet volunteer recruitment goals:

When gang members are instructed by recruiters to conceal their gang affiliations and/or juvenile criminal records what else does the army or FBI expect?
From the gang perspective it's probably far less expensive to have insiders to facilitate military equipment theft than bribing troops, the normal method.

I found more info on gangs in the military.
ere have been allegations among law-enforcement officials and in the media of a strong presence of street gangs within the U.S. military. Military officials acknowledge that gang members can be found in the services, particularly the Army, but insist that gang membership does not pose a serious problem.
Stars and Stripes set out to explore the issue. Reporters interviewed dozens of military officers, police officials, military and civilian investigators, former gang members and ordinary servicemembers. This is what they found:

The 2005 National Gang Threat Assessment
The Army Criminal Investigation Command’s FY 2006 Gang Activity Threat Assessment
A January, 2007 FBI report on gang-related activity in the Armed Forces
WASHINGTON — Gang activity in the military is increasing, and the number of gang-related crimes involving soldiers and their families nearly tripled from fiscal 2005 to fiscal 2006, according to a pair of new reports.
Both studies note that gang members represent only a small fraction of the total force, but say that gangs have become a bigger presence — and a bigger concern — in just the last few years.
“Gang-related activity in the military is increasing and poses a threat to law enforcement officials and national security,” according to the FBI’s National Gang Intelligence Center report, released in January

Damn, I never would have thought about it I guess, but I can see how something like this could come up. It is a really disgusting idea to think that this shit could go on and effect our military. I would like to see them enforce a zero tolerance policy for that shit. I'll have to read up some more on it, but if their assinine shinanigans really start interfering with our military I say we lock their ass up for bringing it in there.

Well, I think attitudes of those undiciplined personnels push normal ppl in afghanistan and Iraq to the insurgents side ... There were a lot of Iraqis who waves US flags when US first entered to Baghdat, now the same ppl become insurgents..

IMO, gang members are learning valuable skills in the military and they will be employed on the streets soon.
