I thought this was an interesting system. It's something I've never seen deployed on any other military system. Common countermeasures include chaff and flares. Never seen a laser deployed as a countermeasure. I think that we are on cusp of a revolution in laser technology.

I can't remember the name of the show, but they had a program on Discovery that talked about new lazers. They said that they have and are working on lasers that can be mounted on aircraft and then aimed at targets on the ground, munitions depots, Anti aircraft installations, truck convoys, etc. and after a few seconds of having the laser on them they pretty much just explode into flames. They will also be used against missles and other aircraft.

They already have a laser available to consumers that can pop balloons and ignite matches and set paper on fire.
