I found this change a bit odd:

In 2005 -

2) In politics today, do you consider yourself a:
Democrat 13%
Republican 56%
Independent 15%
Libertarian 2%
Other 3%
Decline to answer 11%

Democrat 16%
Republican 22%
Independent 2%
Libertarian 46%
Other 3%
Decline to answer 11%

That's quite a shift over to the Libertarian party.

Hell yeah, I noticed that too. Go libertarians. I may be getting too excited from seeing that, but it sure would be nice to get rid of the republicans and democrats (the politicians that is).

I was also surprised to see that support for the war was still higher than disapproval. I figured that now a days with all the doom and gloom that is going around disapproval would have been higher. Of coarse the last question with Bush's name in it had a lower approval rating.

The drop in support for the Republicans will play a huge part in the next election.

Before Iraq they could always count on the majority of the military votes.

I think that the democrats being in power will play a big part. Once they see that the dems and liberals are screw ups too I think we will start to see more independent and third party affiliation. Probably not this time around, but the presidential election after this one, I think we will see a heavy third party contender. We are done with the crazy right wingers, and after a few years we will be done with the crazy left wingers.

Anybody remember which states have legislatively somewhat blocked independents from their electoral votes after Perot scared them? It's difficult to get legislation amended unless the major parties have really pissed off the electorate.

I agree it'll take 2012 to possibly get someone other than a party groomed candidate with enough support (and money) to challenge party dominance. The next president inherits a mess only a professional politician would want.

I tried to look that up (the independents being blocked) but couldn't find anything. That sounds like a lot of bullshit to me.

What's with all these bullshit comments? There are more suttle methods of disagreeing.

Thanks for the classy response.

Closed primaries, now common common in states with high electoral votes, make it almost impossible for an independent to win a national election under the electoral college system of election.

Ha Ha Ha.

No, I mean I really tried to find it but couldn't. THEM TRYING TO BLOCK INDEPENDENTS FROM ELECTORAL VOTES IS BULLSHIT. Sorry, I wrote it in a hurry and didn't think about how that sounded. My bad.
