Al Quaida claims to hold two Austrians in Tunisia

A group calling itself "Al quaida in the Maghreb" apparently kidnapped two austrian tourists and wants allegedly to put pressure on european countries to halt the israeli incursions in Gaza by that move. They were also calling on westerners not to visit Tunisia "for leisure". Authorities have declared a "land and sea search" was on the way.....

Seems like pretty much anyone that wants to do anything now calls themselves "al Qaeda" these days even though they don't really have any affiliation with bin Laden's al Qaeda. First it was "al Qaeda in Iraq" and now its "al Qaeda in the Maghreb" and next it will probably be "al Qaeda in Kosovo" and when they want to go on vacation it will be "al Qaeda in Tahiti."

IIRC it(the name Al Queada) can be ultimately traced back to a court case in NYC and guess who was involved in it? yup, Patrick Fitzgerald, small world

Bin Laden gets a commission for every group that calls itself al-Qaeda. As for the soldiers, in a few days Dim-bulb W will stand in front of the world and condemn the kidnapping of those Australian soldiers.

I've noticed that now the US military is referring to anyone in Iraq that is an insurgent as being members of "al Qaeda in Iraq" which of course they are not. There is a huge difference between an insurgent fighting against the occupation of their nation by a foreign country and a member of al Qaeda which are foreign born fighters using terrorism to fight against tyranny.

Plus it shows how far spread out they are.

Nice find. The North African Branch. Humm they are becoming Global. China the other day shot some in their country, they are spread all over the EU. And here in in America it is said they have functional cells. Now if we put the many threads together on this subject we have a very large percentage of radical Islam in many places among the other side of the coin the peaceful Muslim's of the Islamic faith. Reminds me of the German character on the early 70's show Laugh In. His line being at the end of the show "Very Interesting." Does anyone else see the bigger picture. They are among their own and gaining support daily from each area they operate in. Willingly or by force they are growing. And they have a better training program than most countries have as basic training for their troops.

The austrian governement has refused any negotiations with the kidnappers but tries to find ways via the EU to secure their release.

this kind of thing isn't fought with military power, it's fought with good police work, strong and functional justice system, good government, and adherence to our Constitution

organizations like AL Queada cannot and do not want to work in places like that, their methods work best in places where there is big problems and strife and just basic daily struggle for survival, they also are pursuing the goal of Islamic states in the usual areas---Pakistan, Afghanistan seem to be in the forefront of that, have been for quite some time
