THE RUMSFELD MEMO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush is considering a "laundry list" of options for Iraq that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld suggested before resigning and agrees progress has been too slow, a senior White House official said on Sunday.

Rumsfeld told the White House in a classified memo last month, two days before he resigned, that the U.S. military's role in Iraq was not working well and it was "time for a major adjustment," including possible troop reductions.

Where has this position been? Is this a political ploy? Will it steal Demo thunder for '08 elections? Something to consider.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 — The debate that will engulf Washington and much of the country this week centers on a question that lurks at the intersection of war strategy and the personality of the commander in chief: after three and a half years, is President Bush ready to abandon his declaration that American forces cannot begin to leave Iraq until the Iraqis demonstrate that they are capable of defending themselves

Is this not "stay the course", but more politically correct?
