IRAQ'S FAILURE IS ITS OWN

Sorry, had to post this to see if there are any comments. I will probably be disappointed.

"A republic, if you can keep it.”
- Benjamin Franklin, upon leaving the Constitutional Convention, in answer to “What have we got?”

Just thought I would share ole Ben's opinion. The piece is well written but leaves me with more questions.

BAGHDAD, Nov. 26 — Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki said Sunday that Iraq’s politicians were largely responsible for the surge in violence that engulfed the country over the past week, a departure from his previous assertions blaming militants for inciting the mayhem.

This is one way of looking at it--political agendas are the cause of all Iraq's probs. Belive it?

I have a conspiracy theory on this subject and will post it as soon as it is all together.

Good point. He seems to be saying things in public and actually doing something different behind the scenes.

Even if he had a chance of pulling that country together, the LAST thing he needs is to be labeled as a puppet of the US. Unfortunately, IMO he is a puppet and even if he wasn't he would be accused of it by half the country. I think he's probably doing what Yasser Arafat used to do. State how diplomatic he was in English and then say what he REALLY meant in his own language. I don't see where he has a choice but to do a little horse trading behind the scenes.

Only one choice, have a government form AFTER we are out so there would be no obvious input by us. The only problem is I don't think they could have formed THIS government without us doing it FOR them, and I certainly don't think they can after we leave.

It's a no-win situation for this guy.
