manifest destiny
im just curious to see how many of you still believe manifest destiny still exists.
I personally believe the world should be united under one flag, and that the human race belongs on other worlds. How this should be achieved: by any means necessary. killing? yes. genocide? yes. diplomacy? most definatly.

I think that your ideas are barbarian and worthy of contempt, scorn and ridicule. It's unfortunate that the forum rules prevent me from saying what I would really like to say to you.

Maybe in the sense that a world-wide government could arbitrate world affairs and still be legitimate (unlike America's image in that role). But the system would have to be very federal and most powers would still need to be reserved to countries. But the various peoples of the world are too different culturally to be united "under one flag" in terms of social or fiscal policy. Policy made by a world government should probably only be binding if approved by nations representing a supermajority of the world population (2/3).
Another interesting question would be what the world would be like if Americans had not believed in manifest destiny, or had not found another way to justify their early imperialism? If what is now America were instead at least 2 countries, one likely a confederation of natives, and the other the original states. Or was manifest destiny actually inevitable and obvious? Could it have been kinder and gentler? (i.e. not involving the genocide of natives?)...

Yeah manifest destiny isn't completely dead. We call them neocons now. Their belief in our cultural superiority and the need to destroy and build up other nations to be more like ours is only distinct in that we don't plan on owning their land as part of our nation.
By the way, what is the point of manifest destiny? Why make people suffer?

Please tell me that when you say "you" that you are referring directly to me, and you don't mean non-Americans. I am looking for a good reason to lay the smack down.

Your philosophy is not a neo-con, not even in the same league. Your view is nothing more than a childish play dream. You could just as easily be saying the same thing to a kid in the 5th grade as you say to us. It's that level of discussion.
