Banned
I just noticed Superdude has been banned. Seems like he has been here forever, just wondering what he did.

The final straw was this.
There was a thread and he said that Hillary would endorse McCain if Obama won. This is idiotic, of course. Posters both liberal and conservative challenged dude on this in argument. I re-emphasized that even a conservative was calling him on his bullshit. dude ignored those arguments and continued to talk about something else.
He was given a temporary ban for low quality posting. I explained to him clearly WHY he was given a temporary ban. He replied to me asking me why he was given a temporary ban. I again explained it to him. He ignored that, and said that it seemed like every time he talked about Obama, he got a ban. At that point I gave him a permanent ban.
That incident is a good example of dude's style of posting.
* Post something provocative.
* Get repudiated by other posters.
* Do not reply to those repudiations.
* Say the same thing or something equally stupid in another thread.
dude, through his dishonest posting style, put the burden on the people repudiating him, did not even bother to reply to the debunking of his remarks, and then when approached by the forum staff, play stupid, accuse us of bias, and all sorts of bullshit. Massive amounts of effort was being wasted on one spoiled dishonest brat. dude could be a nice guy, but he is a spoiled dishonest brat. He's got some good qualities too, but I stand by that comment.
That was the typical MO of dude. 4 other moderators wanted him gone. I was one of the last to say enough.

Yeeah I always hated it when he wouldn't respond after you gave him a good argument.

Yep. He did that to everyone and for the better part of a year too.

I actually tried giving dude temporary bans every time he did not reply to rebuttals. That's what I was doing this time. That's already very costly to moderators in terms of time we have to spend, chasing someone around for a rebuttal. He then added to the burden moderators would have to carry by deliberately playing dumb when told that his dodging was unacceptable.

If dude ever changes, and I mean fundamentally changes, then he will be welcomed back and I will personally invite him back.
I already gave him some advice on how he can debate better on his goodbye thread.
He should change his debating/discussion style, not necessarily his political beliefs.

In a very perverse way I sorta liked him. He was kinda like Wiley Coyote. No matter how many times he went over the cliff of intelligent arguement and went splat on the highway beneath, he always got back up and grabbed something new from the ACME neo-con catalouge and tried again.

Maybe, but I can recall at least two instances of members leaving the forum in protest over dude. dude would do his thing, people would insult him, they would get in trouble with the moderation, and then they just left the forum.
Hard to keep defending someone like dude from people who leave the forum in protest, when dude wouldn't even defend his own positions.
If dude were to be protected by the forum rules, it effectively amounts to him being allowed to continuously make driveby attacks, people get pissed off, and they have to take it.

For the record, there's a lot of people we do dispose of that you never hear about. They say something stupid like this one Obama supporter who referred to white people as "the man". I told him that Obama's mother was white, and made other arguments, to which he never replied. He was banned.
There was another guy who posted thread after thread attacking McCain, posting idiocy about how John Kerry was a better member of the armed forces than McCain. I voted for Kerry and I know that's bullshit. I was greatly satisfied to get rid of him.
We have to have some kind of quality standards here.
