Who is a fascinating artist of our time?
I’m looking for an artist that people here enjoy. I have to do a presentation on an artist who draws, or paints and uses drawings. Anyone here like art?

I live in Santa Fe, NM. Got more artists then we know what to do with. But My fav would have to be RC Gorman. Our most famous is probably Georgia O'Keeffe.

I like art, and I have seen a lot of art, but the art I most like, which reaches the largest audience is music, and there I like Anni Defranco. She is not pleasant to listen to. Her voice is not musical, but it can be beautiful. Her poetry is very visual in the sense that only words or movies can capture scenery. Her subjects are often pain that is self induced, unavoidable, without moral lesson, and yet witnessed. It is obscene to look away from another's pain, to deny with our eyes what they do to survive. The arrangements equal the lyrics in intensity, and if her guitar were a gun most men would be dead. I don't like some of her songs, perhaps most in fact. It makes me wonder some times if the world would not have been improved if she had been strangled with her umbilical cord. As long as she plays, and sings her poetry, even while offended often, I will listen; because of perspective, intelligence, and intensity. I like Van Gough and Rodin. Movies say it better, but are like music a joint effort.

I don't know if they have to still be alive or not, but one guy I always liked was M.C. Escher. It should be easy to find some information on him.

I would have to say that one of the most intressting artist stil alive and producing is Alex Gray. With he's complex drawings he illustrates the depth of life in a very intriguing and innovative way. Analyse the paintings closely, watch the videos and hear what the man has to say.
Alex Grey
Tried to find a couple of high res samples, unfortunately without any luck. Google it and search the website.

I think Julian Beever is amazing. He does chalk drawings on side walks, that look three dimensional when looked at from the right perspective. Check out this website:
Julian Beever's pavement drawings
Look at the anamorphic drawings.

I guess Salvador Dali could be considered an artist of our time; he died in 1989 and painted into the 80's. If you haven't heard of him, know that he painted very strange surrealist paintings.
The Persistence of Memory (1931)
The Temptation of St. Anthony (1946)
The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory (1954)
