Sorry, I don`t think that he should be in any way taken seriously on politics. Extremely biased, entertainment industry pundit is all he is. Sometimes its interesting to watch to be sure, but I don`t take anything intellectual or mentally stimulating about his tv show or other venues.

I never watched his show regularly, but it really seems to have gone down hill. He used to talk about issues that are important, even if I did disagree with him. The last few times I turned on his show, he was spending half his time on celebrities like the rest of the media. I just don't consider that important, and it's sad that that kind of garbage is what gets him ratings.

I too am annoyed by the "fair and balanced" slogan by O'Reilly and Fox News. They should call themselves something like, "your alternative to the liberal media."

I've always had a tough time watching Bill O'Reilly. He gets too worked up. I also think he lacks the kind of open-mindedness that makes for useful discussion.

As for fair and balanced are there no laws about inaccurate advertising in the US ?

bill oreilly is a popmous arrogant racist, but he does occasionally stumble onto the right(correct) side of the issue. He just goes about it in an arrogant racist way.

You dont really have to be fair and balanced when you are right(correct) and you give plenty of good air time to the liberals even if it just when bashing them. At least then it's fair. And still balanced with equal time.

I like O'Reilly. I dont always agree with some of what he says but he gives everyone a shot to the chops when they start spouting their talking points instead of discussing the facts.

The Federal Trade Commission is our agency that prosecutes companies for false advertising. They only oversee the advertising of products and services though, not anything as subjective as a slogan for a "news" channel. (and come to think of it, I've never actually heard of them prosecuting a case).

The first amendment, the right to free speech, is very important here in the US, and rightfully so, but I do wish that TV/radio broadcasting companies would at least get a stiff fine when one of their pundits (such as Bill O'Really) blatantly lies about something. Maybe each blatant lie could be worth 100 points, and when a broadcaster reaches, say, a million points, then the station (or network) would lose their license. (here in the US the airwaves are licensed from the government, theoretically we the people own them, although the licenses go to the highest bidder...the fees go to the FCC and we the people never even know about it).

As things stand now, a broadcaster can lie his ass off every day and not suffer any consequences at all. That doesn't seem right to me. (this is especially prevalent in talk radio...Bill O'Really has a radio show too y'know).

Sure, everyone has the right to express your opinion, but often these talk show hosts spout blatant lies while insisting that they're facts (and sadly a lot of people think that these talk show hosts are experts on what the subjects they're discussing...when in actuality they often have no clue what they're talking about.) That's one reason that the US is so screwed up, so many people are completely misinformed on so much important stuff.

The show was watchable back in 2000 when he claimed to have no allegiances to either party, and proclaimed himself to be non partisan. Since ~2002 he's become a neo-con squawk box.

Ah yes, Bill O'Reilly, watched that guy skewer a local judge here for one of his decisions in a court case, called him a "liberal activist judge" when in reality the judge in question was quite conservative. These pundits usually don't do their homework nor are there to report or comment on news, it's meant as entertainment, junk food for the brain.
