Thumbs up Montel turns the tables on Fox

I thought this was great. Montel slapped those stupid morons on Fox's morning show and their deliberate attempt to stay ignorant and exude ignorance.

Wow, they got shut down hard. Always great to see someone go unscripted on TV.

Fox and friends is a joke. The other day they were reporting on some kids who got their tongues stuck to a metal pole. They are probably worse than entertainment tonight.

Well, Montel was talking in general about news coverage, not just Fox. I agree with him wholeheartedly. In fact there was a topic started by Izzi here about Ledger, where I said basically the same thing he just did. People die everyday, why is Heath Ledger more important then anybody else who died? It sure isnt more important then any troop that died, but that is all the media in general, not just Fox, talks about anymore. They are Hollywood star struck.

I said it before and I will say it again, the drive by media big wigs (CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, MSNBC) are no different nowadays then the gossip mags you see near checkout counters in Wal-Mart, Brookshires, etc. They would rather talk about entertainment weekly stuff that you can see on E! News, then real issues. This is exactly why viewership of the original drive bys is getting less and less.

Montel is right to a point, about talking about soldiers who have died recently, but you have to also take into consideration that the military wont release names until families have been notified and verification has occurred. I dont know if there is any kind of time table to release names after that time but nonetheless he is right.

I was runnin on a treadmill when they were doing that. I thought to myself," Is this national news?" It is nuts, what goes for national news today. With all the problems out there, they worry about "Poor Flick" from a Christmas Story.

Hey I was surfing the net when I ran across this:

Montel Williams to Call it Quits - MSN TV News

Quote:
Montel Williams is calling it a wrap after 17 years in daytime.

CBS TV Distribution confirmed Wednesday that it will end production on the syndicated talkshow at the end of this season. CBS does plan to offer stations a "Best of Montel" package for the fall of '08 that will feature segments from throughout the show's run.

The fate of "The Montel Williams Show" was sealed when key Fox-owned stations opted not to renew it for the 2008-09 season. But a number of other stations had cleared the show for next season, prompting CBS to offer the "Best of" package. The rerun package is sold on an all-cash basis, which is a boon to stations who had been handing over three and a half minutes of barter ad time per segment to CBS for the first-run episodes.

"Stations continue to embrace Montel and the message of social responsibilty that has been the cornerstone of his show," said CBS TV Distribution president and chief operating officer.

Williams, a former military officer, launched his show in New york and a handful of other markets in 1991. The show was picked up for national distribution by Viacom the following year.
This and the fact he was on Fox in that video, may be connected. The Fox owned stations didnt renew his contract.

What an utter asshole!

First, this nonsense about needing to know the exact count of the number dead and to daily talk about their names or thus be called uncaring is nothing but B.S. ! He blindsided these people who were only doing their job, talking about news. He may be unhappy that it is considered newsworthy, but it is!

Second of all, the continued death toll from drug abuse in this country is a avoidable tragedy. News like this should be news. Furthermore the people who piss their lives away should be remembered as fools to de-romatize drug use to our young.

Geez it's a morning talk show not a national hard news show. It is meant to be entertaining and light hearted. It's something to watch as you get ready for work. I find them hilarious at times.

Granted, but just how fucking ridiculous should they get? They are on a channel whose sole purpose is to report news. Why should I not expect to be spared this trivial nonsense?
