CK9 has made some valid points here.
Americans worry about universal health care because they have been led to believe over the long term that any other system is irrefutably unworkable by those with a vested interest, people are also scared of change when it involves unchartered territory.
There are aspects that should be assimilated by those who fear change and these are:-
How can any system in place that puts the 'health' ( profits) of its shareholders first and foremost, be trusted to give you, the patient, the health care you require?
Your health care plan looks fine and dandy until you actually need to use it for anything other than a minor illness.
Any system in place that employs staff to specifically look for loopholes that enable such a system to refuse payment on expensive treatments, does not provide the health care you require.
How can profit making and health care ever morally marry? The truth is, it cannot.
The US has no excuse whatsoever for not providing universal health care.
Most countries in Europe have health care plans that are sold and administrated by selected groups of non- profit making companies.
These countries have very successful systems in place.
The only thing stopping the US from embracing and enjoying such systems, where no-one has to live in fear of needing to consult a doctor, visit a hospital, take medication long term is, sheer greed and an inability of those with so much, to help ones fellow citizens with so little, at a very small cost to themselves.
For goodness sakes, you are supposed to be a super power, yet your health care system for the majority trails way behind some communist countries.
