Do you know Venezuelan citizens that had their assets seized by the Chavez govt?

You hear how he won a "sweeping election". Do you know the tactics used?

Do you know how he is going about nationalizing companies and seizing them?

Do you know the true story behind the tv station that was shut down?

Do you know how many VZs have fled to southern FLA and other parts of the world because they were blacklisted by Chavez?

If you've read any of my posts, you know that I travel. Would you like to guess one of the countries and where I have friends and co-workers?????

respect for the free market economy? what is so free about the world market? never heard of the dilemma where exports from the third world are impossible due to trade barriers while the west dumps all overproduction and destroyes internal industries in the these countries? on every trade summit it is the third world that pleads for fair trade, not the west.

and chavez hatred of the US is only one part of his political direction: a more united south-america, and if you look at current trends you see more democratic governments that follow this pattern than the opposite. they are becoming more and more a block with their own direction and identity and these are the first steps.

do you know of the manipulation of private media in venezuela?

do you know he is a democratically (re)elected president of this country?

do you know one of the biggest problems of government in latin-america is the elites always having a place to flee to in florida, so that these countries have always dealt with presidents that felt no need to support the true interest of their people? do you for example know of the coup of pedro carmona? Trade barriers exist in certain instances between countries, but that is still not a good excuse to use outright theft in business. He so focuses on his hatred of the US that he ignores the rampant problems in his own country. He tries to make everyone believe that America has such a problem of poverty , while his own nation flounders in its squalor. He even tried to change the Venezuelan constitution to allow him to stay in power indefinitely, which the people of Venezuela rejected, and rightly so. When he goes before the UN and says things like "Bush is the Devil" (the fact that I don`t like Bush either aside) it does not make him look like a statesman at all, but a petty politician, whose only goal is the expansion of his own power. All the world`s ills cannot be blamed on the US.

It's not about wether he really means what he says about the USA, you have to understand that under bush's unilateralism it has become increasingly more easy for political oponents to take advantage of these rising sentiments and create a widespread frame of anti-american sentiment. it is not about wether anti-americanism is justified in itself, but about the way it can be used in politics.

yes chavez is peasant and blunt in his tactics, but his sphere of influence is increasing in latin-america regardless of this fact.

I'm a bit lost here. All I really know about this is a documentary I saw in the dead of night - the main time interesting documentary's go on in the UK at the moment.

This man seemed pretty good to me and had enormously increased the well being of the populace and it's ability to know about rights and so forth.

I know on this doc we saw something of how the US had made false films of riots against the man and his supporters being violent. There is no question that these were very definite false propaganda films.

I seem to remember his position was only to make the big American businesses operate in a decent way.

The man certainly came over to me as a decent person. His interest was to provide a decent quality of life for his people. Big corporations may not like that but that is tough luck.

I also saw people being murdered because they tried striking and not doing what the corporations wanted.

I liked him. Seemed to me he had a good heart.
