Cuba: A chance that few realize.

I am just going to throw an idea out there and I would like to know what people think about it:

With the declining health and inevitable death of Cuban Dictator Fidel Castro, there is a possibility of a civil war in Cuba. Do you think its possible to rally up the people of Cuba as well as Cuban immigrants in Florida, take control of the country and finally give Cuba the democracy that it has been starving for for the last 50 years?

This has nothing to do with Religion and Philosophy. Thread moved to Latin America and Canada section.

I don't see any evidence of the likelihood of civil war in Cuba when Fidel Castro dies. His brother, Raul, his likely successor, has already said that Cuba would be amenable to trade discussions with the US after Bush is out of office.

Frankly, regardless of who is elected, I see the next US president at least partially lifting the trade embargo with Cuba.

Trying to interfere in another country's affairs would be disastrous for our already shitty foreign relations. Hell, Castro's regime isn't nearly as bad as Batista's before him, anyways. If people want to live in a Communist country, who are we to tell them they can't?

Agreed with Ice, though that is generally my natural feeling when it comes to any country and their leadership (good or shitty).

True, interference can have unexpected consequences. We aided Castro's fight against Batista, and look where that led us.

What should be the sense of civil war? Why should the Cubans kill each other?

I dont think the Cubans will support this community that set up itself in Florida and brought them nice things like economic sanctions etc. And as next civil war?

I think they will say no thanks to such presents.

My own guess is that with the successor of Castro the land will open up peacefully. Which could unleash a new flourishing economy of Cuba and improve the life of all Cuban people.

I would truly support that step. Its the best that could happen to the Cubans.

I'm ready to see what the fuss over cuban cigars is all about.

Has to be something, Kennedy bought 1000 before he put that embargo on Cuba, but if you really want one, you could just go somewhere where you can buy them, like here in Oz.

And besides, the break out of a civil war in Cuba is unlikely considering Castro, as well as his regime, does have popular support over there.
