Cuba should become a territory of the United States. The people there like us, and we have a huge Cuban nationalist population here that are longing to return to the homeland.

My father-in-law is a cigar afficianado. He's smoked a few Cubans on cruise ships (legal there), and he thinks they are overrated. He prefers a good Dominican (which is where many of the better Cuban cigar makers fled after the Cuban revolution).

Castro actually has a surprising amount of support over there, and making Cuba a territory would be a very unwise move for our foreign relations with the rest of the world.

Not a bad idea. Sarkozy being the President, of course

If the US tried that they would have to be willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of lives. Trying to claim Cuba would be the mother of all disasters. Not only would the Cuban people not accept it, people from all over Latin America would pour into Cuba to fight the imperialists. I'd even go as far as to say that people from all over the world would join the fight to save Cuba.
Cuba is a unique place with a unique leadership. Not only does Fidel have the support of the Cuban people but Socialists the world over. I for one see more honour in fighting and dying to save the revolution than to fight for my own country.

If Cuba were truly an example of "the revolution" rather than just a dictatorship under a different name, I could understand your view.
That said, don't worry. Cuba won't become part of the U.S.

What Does It Mean?
What does it mean when over four hundred attempts on a mans life fail because of the loyalty of his people?.
