Imf Praises Latin America

It would seem the economies in the area are doing fairly well.

I would expect them to, they had big problems in the middle of the 90s, and since growth is simply how much you improve, it's easy to improve when you were doing badly before. The question is how well will they do in future?

THe countries in SA are looking at a EU-style union and I think that would help considerably, maybe not to US liking but the people may be better off in the long run.

Somehow ironic.

South America is recovering again, due to the very fact that it turned away from the IMF demands. And now the IMF officially congratulates them for doing so...

The IMF needs an urgent reformation. Or did it take any consequences already out of the fact that it was its own fault to throw South America into deep monetarial and economic troubles?

Yes it seems they are doing indeed as you say.

Even though the EU-South America summit half a year ago showed that the European quarrels really seem to disappear when compared to the level of disputes within the South American countries...

There clearly is a potential of tensions between those countries like Brazil who follow a moderate left agenda with populist far left regimes like the one Venezuela. Not to talk about possible conservative governments.

But it seems quite clear, to have a stand in the future, South America needs to join up forces. Not at least to defend sovereignty against the US. As its not really a secret what the US thinks about Latin American sovereignty in general...
