Noriega To Be Released

Another dictator has paid his debt to American society. Soon an American friend, oh sorry, an American enemy, will soon finish his prison sentence.

It's official and final: Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega, held in Miami-Dade on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering, will be released from prison on Sept. 9 after completing his sentence.

The news was revealed to El Nuevo Herald by Noriega's attorney, Frank Rubino. The release order appears on the official Web page of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Noriega was never our friend. Just because a guy is considered useful as a CIA asset doesn't make him a friend. The CIA uses scum and knows they are scum. When you want to take down scum, good luck finding angels to pay off to help you.

I am curious to see if Noriega will have anything to say after his release. For example, I have long been curious about the "accidental" death of his predecessor, Omar Torrijos

And I am interested in CIA links to this drug trade he has been found guilty of, and how does it go up?

The CIA had no links to the drug trade. The CIA paid him off in order to attempt to STOP the drug trade.

What's this about the CIA having no involvement in the drug trade? As you said in another post, the CIA has always used the scum of the earth, including Noriega. A very entertaining and informative movie I recommend you watch is: Air America, starring Mel Gibson. How many CIA supply flights in support of the Contras returned with drugs for the US? The CIA has always gone by the maxim that the end justifies the means

That's rumor that hasn't even come close to being verified. It's not even as credible as Iraqi WMD.

It's revealing that some of us are willing to swallow any negative story about the US but demand extremely solid proof of our adversaries' wrongdoing.

The OSS, which later became the CIA worked with the Mafia during WWII. During the Viet Nam war the CIA "secretly" built and operated the largest airport in Laos while Nixon was telling US that we had no one in that country and helped in the transport of drug shipments. Our allies in the Vietnam war, the Hmong and other highland minorities were mostly poppy growers, and it was the CIA and secret Special Forces operatives that worked with them. The Contras who we trained and armed were not nice guys nor supporters of democracy. The CIA frequently does not have the same agenda as the DEA

Well, I do agree that when the War on Drugs collides with the War on Communism or the War on Terror, the War on Drugs takes a back seat, and rightfully so. But the CIA didn't ship drugs to the US for sale. At worst, the CIA cooperated with people involved in the drug trade to further more important national security interests.

Although in the case of Noriega, he was being paid to help bring down drug lords.
